In a video for a tabloid newspaper, Hatton apologises for his transgressions and admits at the moment he considers himself to be a failure. "I'm currently in The Priory dealing with depression due to not being able to cope with my retirement from boxing. I've been binge drinking heavily and dabbling in other daft and silly things but it's going to be the toughest fight of my life and I'm here to win it." Hatton then goes on to apologise to his fans, the BBBoC, his family and girlfriend before saying "People say to me, 'Are you going to fight again?' and I say 'I'm not sure, I've renewed me licence, I might do, I might do...I think I'm clutching at straws. "I know it's gone and I think for me to move on and get out of this depression I need to admit to myself, 'Son, it's over, get on with your life'."
the best way to beat depression is to go to the gym, make yourself busy on the ropes although being retired from the sport.. and sniffing it out dont make you feel stronger than pac..
:happy Thanks for the fights, Hitman. This guy fought like a bulldog and despite his lack of skills fought with alot of heart. Hopefully he'll still be a part of boxing, but outside the ring. He's had a respectable ring career and fought against the best and made alot of money and fans along the way. I'm certain he'll kick depression in the ass. He's funny as hell too and a great personality. Viva El Manchester Mexican!!!
Hatton was a good fighter, would have had a better career if he would have spent more time training then in the pubs getting drunk...
dunno what your talking about, considering Hatton came in great shape in all his fights. He had pretty amazing stamina. He just got beat by the two best fighters on the planet, no shame in that really.
It was pretty clearly over with the Lazcano performance, if not earlier. The Malignaggi win is meaningless in hindsight. Buddy McGirt ruins fighters that aren't stylistically pliant.
He needs to get into something to replace the highs he had with boxing. Whether its his family, golf, snooker, just as long its not boxing.
Hatton's biggest problem was simply his weight gaining between fights, then sometimes being forced to lose as much as 4 stone (56lbs) in about 10 weeks; in the end it will take a toll on the body and catch up with you. That isn't a dig at Hatton, its just a simple fact. He gave us some great nights on action, and I wish him well.
Hatton is so popular, and such a gregarious person, it seems like he could have a long and fruitful post boxing career in broadcasting.
