ashamed to say as a lifelong boxing fan, i watched this for the first time today..wow..what a war....not much boxing but both fighters show enormous heart, will to win and sheer big bollocks....gotta be up there with tua ibeabuchi for heavyweight wars, even more exciting cos the knockdowns.....
Yeah, I've seen it being criticized because it lacked technique but it has everything that makes a great fight in my opinion. Big shots landing with regularity, shifts in momentum, multiple knockdowns, and a conclusive finish. A wonderful fight, infinitely more compelling than Tua vs Ibeabuchi in my estimation. That fight actually lacked drama because, despite the nonstop action, no fighter seemed in danger at any point.
Cosell was hilarious when he kept bringing up Norton (sitting next to him) and his fight with Foreman.
a personal favorite. the suspense keeps building cause both guys are throwing haymaker bombs. im pretty sure foreman is quoted as saying "nobody hit me harder then ronny lyle."
I can remember watching it on World of Sport. The compere of the programme called it the most two-sided fight that he'd ever seen. Pretty apt description.
I have it on VHS.it was phenominal, the way they were going at each other, but two things about Foreman I noticed it this fight. 1) He was stronger than Lyle. 2) The little pitty-pat punches he was hitting Ron with in the last round, those jokers must have really hurt him.
