This :deal I think Froch's power is over-rated at the top level at 168, so at 175 and against someone with Clev's chin i don't see him making too much of a dent. I'd pick Clev, especially in a few years when he's matured a bit.
Froch might not even hit him much. Clev's defence might not be the best but Froch is incredibly slow and can't counterpunch so if Cleverly keeps him occupied and then ties him up Froch will struggle to get off. How many CLEAN punches has he landed at world class? I think thats why he's struggled for knockouts too. He cuffs people and half hits them but doesn't land a huge array of clean accurate punches.
Too early to call really Clev has only gone 12 rounds once and not against someone as good as Froch before. If Clev fights like he did the other night Froch will stop him everytime. If Clev boxes on the outside then he may have a chance of winning on points, but Froch is a lot harder to beat than he looks like he should be.
i think cleverlys got what it takes to be undisputed world champ, but styllistically froch would win by late stoppage because clev would be drawn in to toe-to-toe battle and froch would win that. i think its a compliment to clev that we are even debating this fight at this early stage in his career
Right now Froch beats him. Another couple of years and it's interesting. If what i see in Cleverly is proved to be correct than Froch is a bad match up for him. You can't "out man" Froch unless you have that game changer. If Nathan fought like he did against Murat then he would be in trouble.
Cleverley ate more shots than he needed to against Murat which seemed a bit recklees but he seems to have a better variety and workrate than Froch. Froch's will wont be broken easily though he'll suck it up and fire back. They can both take a punch but Froch's chin is more proven than Cleverley's at top level. Cleverley is bloody huge though, a towering frame and longer reach than Carl. Very good fight though.
Clev would box his head off. Froch is overrated, he was 12 seconds or so away from defeat to Jermaine Taylor, Dirrell showed him up, he's no boxer. He's a tough guy with a good chin and a decent punch. But he's easy to hit, has been down before, is 32 now, after another war with AA he'll be close to shot I reckon.
For me, right now, I think Froch finishes it late. Cleverley could win the fight by boxing smart and not getting involved. But I think we can all see now that he likes to get inside and prove he's a "warrior" by going toe-to-toe. Cleverley has a poor ko percentage and I don't think he has the ferocious power which is needed to put Froch away and not see him get back on his feet. And whilst I think he'd be winning the fight on the scorecards I can see him going inside just once too often despite Dean Powell time and time screaming at him not to. And therefore he'd get tagged too often and Froch would put him on the back foot eventually with his shots and the referee would jump in to stop it in the last three rds.
His poor KO % is due to being skinny early dorrs - he's stopped his last 7 opponents. He's 23, the power is coming as he matures.
Ok. But the kind of power, in my opinion, that is going to stop or ko Froch is the kind of power that Abraham has. Cleverley has not and will not ever have that in my opinion. Cleverely is doing terrific at the moment but he needs to develop ring smarts. If he doesn't start listening to his corner he's going to get caught out by someone that is not Murat. Besides, Froch is too experienced to eat a lot of unanswered punches. Right now Cleverley would take them and do the whole "woo" :-( thing in his face like he did to Murat, were as Froch would hold on and buy time.
Agreed. Now, I could see Nathan beating Froch to the punch for a few rounds, but then as the infamous GZA album intro stated "thats when everything changed"! No way Cleverly with his mindset would avoid getting in a dog fight with Froch. Froch may not be a concussive puncher, but he's got a thudding accumulative type of effect. Nathan has a lot of room for improvement, I've never seen a fighter start soo tall and then shrink soo much later in the fight.
I doubt NC will develop a huge KO punch either, but Calzaghe only KO'd about 2 opponents, the rest were TKO stoppages, volume punchers will get them in the end, I think Clev will be - sorry, is able to do that now. Brancalion hadn't been stopped much I don't think, Murat was unbeaten, I've watched Clevs last 7 or so fights now and I think he has enough power to do damage. I also think once someone hurts him he'll bring his hands up more, I concede he's got, how shall we say; the confidence of youth?
Therein lies the problem. No matter how much Nathan tries he'll never be like Calzaghe. Joe was a special type of fighter. Nathan's work is forced, he hasn't got the nuances on the inside, defence, angles, footwork and 20 other things Joe had.
Froch would walk through his pitter patter punches all night and smash him! Cleverly's defence is awful and he doesnt get purchase on his punches as he rarely gets full extension on his arms.
