Because they had 8 weight classes in the past and added 9 to make it "easier" for everyone. What's the ****ing point? There's already SEVENTEEN.
Nothing if both fighters agree to it. Catchweights allow fights to get made that would have not gotten made. If you wanna bash fighters for catch weights make sure you include guys like Ray Leonard, Roy Jones, Whitaker, Trinidad, Hoya, Joe Walcott, etc.
I don't like them in title fights. Firstly, there are now twice as many divisions as there used to be, so the need for them has decreased. Secondly, if FighterA had to beat FighterB at weight X to win a title, it seems out of order that FighterC can demand FighterA fight at weight X-n for the same title. You're not measuring against the same benchmark. If you're the lightweight champion, it's an implicit claim that you are better than every other fighter who would qualify under the lightweight limit. To then get the title at less than lightweight makes a mockery of the title, as there's always the implication / possibility that you couldn't have done it at the weight the title is supposed to represent.
This, Im not against the occasional CW fight, but these POS sanctioning bodies have basicly created 9 CW divisions, Cruiser is the only one that is needed IMO.
and unfair to all the fans and spectators. There are more than enough divisions now, catchweights are a rort.
Ok you answered your own question. What is so bad about having them? Acording to you nothing right? So why have them? Why not fight at the belts min-max weight and obey the rules?
As long as no championship is at stake. I have no problem with catch-weight fights. However if a championship is at stake. I have a big problem with catch-weight fights.
When the 2 fighters who actually strap on the gloves and slug it out agree on a weight, it's funny how couch potatoes who's only fighting will involve who took the last chip on the snack tray throws fits about the agreement.
middleweight limit between 155 to 160 pounds if my math is correct thats 6 pounds to play with. if the middleweight title is on the line, its BULL**** to try and get the champion to agree to coming in 3 pounds light, even though he is the champion....if you dont want the belt or the fight, go home. Sergios people should have never bowed to that demand/request. if no title is on the line and 2 fighters agree to a weight, then no big deal....
nothing...people make too big a deal about them. It helps fighters even the playing field when one can't make a certain weight. Its also just my personal opinion but title belts don't have to be fought at the max weight any weight can be greed upon as long as its above the next weight would prefer at least 3 lbs difference though.
