I think its more to do with the promoters being happy with their boxers progress so far and being willing to wait for the fight to be worth more money.

If you take that attitude as a boxing fan then you'd spend FAR too much time screaming out of windows to no end result.;)

I agree. I have been happy with the fights each have taken so far and as long as the continue on that path I don't have a problem.

If DeGale fighters for the vacant British agaisnt Anderson/Quigley winner and Groves defends his Commonwealth agaisnt 2 decent opponents in 2010 its not an issue.

I get the feeling if Groves get frozen out at British level they will jump straight to European simular to Haye.

I agree, Degale will get the Brit title, Groves will go down the Euro route and hopefully we'll get a fight for all 3 titles with the winner to progress to a world title shot.

Dftaylor and Gaz OC......don't you also think that if the fight did take place December 11th, the loser would not be able to recover especially if its one sided. Mentally they would not be able to handle a loss to there biggest rival at this stage of there career.

Its a big loss, no doubt. No matter who its against to fail at British level would be blow. I guess its up to the fighters how they handled it and comeback. Its been done before.....

Why wouldn't they get over it?

If one of them suffers a one sided beat down maybe they're not as good as they look at the moment? Because its clear both have areas to improve upon so if one gets hammered its really just highlighting that they're perhaps not a world class prospect.

Is the fight that much more likely to happen if Groves is mandatory? If the two sides don't want it, they don't want it.

I think that a loss early on in the career can be a good thing for many prospects.....but a loss to your long time rival in a fight people have been talking about since you both turned pro. Its quite clear both fighters think they can be world class, and both think the other is not at there level. It would be damaging to whoever loses.

It may be a case that both sides want it....but they want it on there own show. If it goes to purse bids it goes to whoever wins the bids.

Do you think DeGale would vacate the British title and not defend it if Hayemaker won the bid. Its not like either can have a home advantage either....there from the same bloody place.

Fighters always believe someone else isn't on their level. If they didn't think that it would be hard to get in the ring and fight somebody expecting to lose.

If these two are as good as we think it will be a competetive fight and somebody will come out on top. It's hardly going to be soul destroying to lose a fight to a gold medalist or somebody that had your number in the amateurs anyway. They know they would be up against a good fighter not an unknown journeyman so I think its a little overdramatic to suggest that.

In DeGales eyes he never lost to Groves in the amateurs it was a poor decision. After that loss DeGale was so pissed of he trained with 12 year olds instead of being in the gym at the same time as Groves. Since they turned pro DeGale has been critical of every Groves performance, slagged him off at every opportunity. You think if Groves knocked him out in 3 rounds he would be able to recover??

the way it looks to me neither side wants this fight to happen right now. Theres every chance that Degale wins the Brit title, Groves is mandatory but doesn't exercise the option and goes after the Euro title.

That way the fight is worth more in total and Groves percentage as European champion would also be worth that it would be as a British title challenger.
