i've had him top 10 but the more fights and fighters i watch, the less certain i am about who belongs where. I cant see myself ranking him any lower than 15 though.
Yeah, he was something truly special at his peak. But his losses, epecially those to Tarver, takes away a substantial bit, even though he had faded some by then. First getting knocked out with one punch in their rematch and then more or less mentally surrendering in the rubber match, in fear of another KO. The latter is especially bad.
Horrendously overrated, as evidenced by the top 5-15 ratings he's been getting in this thread alone. Astonishing. Top 45. Tremendously talented, but dominated a terrible Light Heavyweight division. As a side note, if Hopkins beats Pascal then I'd rank Bernard above him.
Meh, hopkins and pascal is typical old nard conman pick and choose bull****.Couldn't fight dawson because maybe the hype was right eh,..as if. ****ing retire you old ****.
Hopkins has no business beating Jean Pascal at this point in his career, especially not after his last performance, so it would be huge for his resume. In my opinion.
I can't really grasp lists or rankings, but going by the types of lists that I see here on the forum, I'd say somewhere roughly in the 30-50 sort of bracket on average. Were a person with respected boxing acumen not to include him in their top 50 or so great fighters, it wouldn't bother me as much as seeing him in the top 20. A great and perhaps unique sort of fighter with clearly defined flaws would sum him up in a nutshell for me.
I'd say it would be more of a damning indication of the sheer mediocrity of Pascal(if which i've long been a firm believer in anyway) if he lost, unless Hopkins somehow managed to look worthwhile in victory again.
Pascal is a flawed fighter but he did just beat the best 175 pounder in the world legitimately and he is a two weight world champion. He's quick, very strong, and mobile enough that he should be a clear favorite over the ancient Bernard Hopkins. Would be among his greatest triumphs if he pulled it out, and would do enough, in my mind, to rank him over the outrageously overrated Roy Jones Jr.
Depends. Depends on your criteria and how willing you are to explain away those two KO's. If you're big on skillset etc. you can have him very very high. If you're interested in resume and all that there...not so much.
