I've noticed that there's a wide range of opinion on ol' Sugar. Where do you stand on him as a historian/boxing personality?

I think he used to be pretty good, but at some point in the last fifteen years he became a bit of a parody of himself, like a larger-than-life cartoon version of the fedora-wearing, 1950's-era, boxing enthusiast.

I'll still listen to him, though. He's good on camera and knows how to wrap up a soundbite in exactly the kind of way media networks like, but I don't really listen to him for insight any more.

Before Marquez/Mayweather: "This is no tune up. This will be a very hard fight"

After Marquez/Mayweather: "Bringing Marquez up from 130lbs, are you kidding me?"

Really? I'd say the exact opposite is true in fact.

He makes the list of celebrities I'd like to punch in the face.

I don't do lists, so I'm not sure how far down we're talking though.

I think he is pretty entertaining, but I don't take him to seriously.

About where i am. Heard his commentary on the "in this corner" series and it was nice just for little stories and what not.

Really? I think it's the polar opposite. His image is what gets him by.

Bert Sugar and George Chuvalo appeared together on Ringside Classics sometime back. That was pretty good.
