Another thing people like to do in these hypothetical match ups, is take a fighter from another era, bring him to a more contemporary era where there are only 12 rounds of which to operate in, now the reason i believe Boxing tactics have come along as much as they have, is because the 15 round distance has been abolished, its less about how much grit and stamina you have to get through championship distance, and focused more on whether you can peck and poke your way and have enough stamina to last till the 12 round to pinch a decision.


Guys like Jermain Taylor, Miguel Cotto, would not lost 5 mins if they fought in the era of 15 rounds.

For a start, Eddie Chambers is a tier 3 fighter, incomparable to even a 1977 Ali. Now I will laugh at your stupid statement about Chambers not being "big enough" to beat super heavyweights. If that "too small" nonsense was true, then he would not have beaten the 253lb Ross Puritty, 248lb Derric Rossy, 241lbs Calvin Brock, 250lb Raphael Butler, 265lb Samuel Peter or the 253lb, 6'7" Alexander Dimitrenko etc...

Ali wins nearly every round, and George/Lennox would have been very interesting. Lean very slightly towards George.

 

What is happening time and again on this thread is that user are comparing the worst version of Ali with the best version of Lewis. And yes, that would be a good fight. Lewis might even win. But let's look at their overall careers. Ali was the best fight in in the division when he was 21. Lewis couldn't say that until he was in his mid thirties. Lewis was KOed twice in his prime, Ali was only stopped in his last fight. Lewis was outjabbed and outboxed by B level fighters like Ray Mercer. Really?

In terms of talent, there is really no comparison. Had they met as young men, Ali would have boxed circles around Lewis. He would have been giving up about 20 pounds, but he was so much faster than Lewis it isn't even funny. Also, Lewis didn't even learn to use his jab effectively until he met Steward.

If they had met as older men, that would have been the only time they woulld have possibly been competitive. If they had met when they were both around 33, just after Ali beat Foreman and when Lewis was beginning to assert his dominance, that would have been a very good fight. Lewis would have had a chance. I still say he'd lose.

 

Peaked 1997-2000 Lewis wins over Post-Jail 1970-1981 Ali - BUT if Peak Lennox fought Peak 1964-1967 Ali, it would be a 50-50 close-as-**** boxing-match.

prime for prime Ali UD over Lewis. No way Lewis knocks out Ali. Ali used side to side movement and would land punches on Lewis he wouldn't see coming. Lewis had a powerful jab, but wouldn't find his mark often. He'd be forced to go after Ali, not box circles around him and most likely get frustrated. Ali was as smart as they came and he'd be aware of Lewis's uppercut when on the inside, just like he was aware of Foreman's power. Lewis most likely would of landed some massive shots to Ali's body and would tire, like most big men do. Then Ali get's his sneaky shots in and Lewis would be in massive, massive trouble and in danger o being stopped. Ali decision.

 

one thing missing here, remember what happened when a small Henry Cooper hit Ali flush, ALMOST goodnight. Ali does have the speed over Lewis but it would be a hard fight thats for sure. A prime Lewis would have a great chance against Ali, and would have knocked the **** out of Marciano:hey
