you're just jealous that he's on TV and you're on the internet. And that he has his own personal stylist and you shoplift your **** from fashion bug.:deal
He's a great laugh, a real charactor, yer need more Burt's in this world & not the PC soundbite dribblers. yeh!!! call him a chancer!!! Who ai'nt!!! I don't understand why some people come down hard on him? I've spent quite a few occasions getting hammered with him in the Zuri bar at the MGM whenever i'am in Vegas for a fight & like all things, once you get through the smokescreen he's a ****in howl & i'd like to be bangin the whores 2 at a time every night when i'am his age:yep
He's a bit dated but he is an industry veteran ... he's pretty knowledgable but his shameless self promotion has resulted in an image that is stale and over exposed. I also feel he has been, at times, a bit of a needy annoyance on his Classic Sports segments, trying to hog air time from more interesting guests ..
I like him, and appreciate him. He is one of those self-created characters who has been instrumental in attracting 'civilians' to boxing. Boxing is, in the end, a subculture that needs to fill seats in order to survive. Bert Sugar understands this and has tailored his presentation to make it bite-sized for the Bretts and Bettys of the real world. He's a friend to boxing. He's also a friend of a friend. And I've been told that the man has no use for pretentiousness. He is not someone who bows down to the establishment and in fact has gone out of his way to distance himself from the powers that be. That's a fella after my heart.
Absolutley:yep To quote Groucho Marx..... I would'nt want too join any club that would have me as a member or something along those lines. I have a passionate hate for Al Bernstien in regards to boxing going back to 85, a company man indeed:deal
Cartoon Character. Never heard him say anything insightful enough to be of value to the diehard fan that would post on this board.
I have known Bert Sugar for approx. 25 to 30 years. I was the MC several times for Lou Duva, when he use to have his roasts, and Bert came everytime. Just recently he came to the AAIB affair in New York, where I again was the MC and we joked around. We work together nicely. Anytime he sees me he makes it a point to come over and talk to me. Anytime he has a book, he asks me if I want one. I would say, yes, how much do I owe you. He says, for what you do for boxing, are you kidding. He has sent me many of his books without taking a cent, just last month he sent me one of his new baseball books. He is a Great story teller and still uses the typewriter. He does have a lot of knowledge, But at times, does make mistakes. I have been at many of his talks and when I think he wasn't accurate with his facts, I wouldn't bring it up at that time. I would wait until he was done, then I would get him a side and tell him. Maybe that is one of the reasons he likes me.
Seems a harmless enough guy but very patchy on some of his stories. I take him with a bucket of salt nevermind a pinch
I like him, personally. He's entertaining. But it's obvious he favors the old timers. I knew he was off his rocker when he said that Primo Carnera would knock out Vitali. Yeah, right. And, his favorite fight was Dempsey/Firpo. He feels it was the best fight ever. I agree it was full of action, but what about The Fight Of The Century, or the Bowe/Holyfield wars? I respect his opinion, but I think he sleeps on more modern fighters, preferring the fighters of his era. By the way, has Bert ever actually smoked that cigar?
worthless asswipe... a walking parody of the sport... a caricature... repeating half-truths and shopworn yarns ad nauseum. he subtracts rather than adds to the sport.
