Become a boxing writer; either for a magazine or on a freelance basis. You don't have to write a book, maybe just write articles and submit them. That's about as close as you'll get.

In a goofy, less prosaic way, that's all we really do here anyway.

Oh......and we don't get paid. There is that.

There's a deli around the corner that always has this sign in the window: "Boxing Historian Wanted. Must be unbiased, well read and researched. No *******s or *****s. Inquire within."

Actually when I drove almost 200 miles to do the eulogy for a Ring 8 member a couple of months ago, I took the President of the Boxing Writers Association of America, Jack Hirsch. He asked me if I would be interested in being the Historian for that Organization. Tonight at the Ring 8 meeting, he repeated it, so I accepted.

I am also the Boxing Historian for several other Veteran Boxing Organizations, including the largest and most well known, Ring 8, out of New York.

    I would describe Hank Kaplan a a historian/archivist.
I would describe posters who use the term when referring to themselves,[with a very few exceptions],as pretentious.

I would describe most posters on the Classic as pretentious but it doesn't stop them being incredibly knowledgeable and a benefit to novices like myself.
