Greb canned him and he went over to Tunney.

If it didn't stop him from beating Gene twice, why would any of that stop him in a third fight and why would Tunney now think it would?

You just have to give Gene credit. Hopelessly outclassed, as you say, he got right back into the ring with Greb. After all, this second fight was not even competitive. Gene's only real hope in the rubber match was to fix that one also.

    And it appears he did.

Its easy to hop into the ring with a guy you know you cant lose to even if he pulled a gun and shot you dead on the spot...

"Your not very familiar with Jimmy Walker era in New York."

Probably not. He was up in Albany as a state senator in 1923, wasn't he? I thought he was elected mayor in 1925. What is the argument here--that because Walker was in the state senate the Tunney-Greb fight was fixed?

By the way, Jimmy Walker wrote "Will you love me in December like you do in May" with Ernest Ball, I believe.

    What a great old song.

Of course, Walker was also the author of the Walker Law governing boxing in New York.

Really? That doesnt constitute an admission in your eyes :nut

Ever hear of stacking the deck in your favor? Pay off some of the reporters to write favorable reviews and you can create doubt in the ignorant masses... its obviously worked on you.

Yeah lets give Tunney all the credit in the world for fighting a smaller, older fighter who was blind in one eye and had the officials and various newspaper men paid off in advance to tip the scales in his favor... In his hometown... In front of a partisan crowd... Thats a real man killer there. Boy he was just letting it all hang out wasnt he LOL

    So true.

It is a good thing Gibbons and Dempsey exposed Tunney for what he was.

Yeah because Gibbons was in his prime right? Oh wait, Tunney admitted he wanted nothing to do with Gibbons in his prime, but lets not listen to what Tunney says, he doesnt agree with us:-(

...and now that I think about it wasnt Dempsey coming off a little layoff of his own? Hmmmm...

"That doesn't constitute an admission in your eyes"

Tunney certainly wasn't all that defensive.

    "ignorant masses"

They just won't listen to you, will they.

"That's a real man killer there."

As I said before, fortunately Gibbons and Dempsey exposed him.

Oh, come on. Do you think you are the first person to have heard of Jimmy Walker? Bob Hope actually played him in a movie and he was the subject on Biography a few years back.

The best story about him is his trashing Babe Ruth for being a drunk at a dinner. He said Babe was letting the little guys down. Babe supposedly broke down and cried.

"What did you do before the internet?"

    Had sex.

You're convincing me. Tunney's a bum. The guy didn't accomplish anything.

That's why Greb bet everything he owned on Dempsey.
