Well it was a stoppage loss. I dont remember him even being knocked down, but he was taking a lot of shots. When the ref ended it he was still fighting back, he's got a great chin and loads of heart.

That loss did highlight a lot of his problems I think though. A lack of head movement, so once another fighter has him ranged he can land at will. Plus he doesn't react like he should when he gets hurt, he needs to learn to tie up and spoil for a round, to get him back to the corner.

From what I understand, Andy could potentially get a WBA title shot next year and there have been some preliminary discussions of such a fight POSSIBLY taking place.

Andy has said (and admirably so, IMHO) that he wants to fight the best, and he stated he's looking in the direction of the Martinez-Williams winner.

I do not believe that is realistic, though.

Martinez's advisor was on our program the same day as Andy Lee, and he said he would advise against the fight because HBO would have no interest in it--and he's probably right. At his age, Sergio needs to focus on maxing out his potential earnings in big name encounters.

Then again, if Martinez loses the rematch to Williams, perhaps he might be more willing to look in Andy's division. But if I were Andy, I'd stay away from Martinez unless he had a title.

Call me crazy, but I believe Andy could represent a nightmare for Paul Williams. I think Andy is big enough and strong enough to hurt Paul, and I believe Emanuel can find ways to exploit Paul's many flaws.

  4. macklin and duddy would both whoop andy lee on any day of the week

duddy would just be too strong and resilient for him, macklin would be an absolute massacre. He would just box his head off until he decided it was time to put him away

lee should just stick to that upper 3rd tier of boxing and enjoy some half decent paydays as the moment he gets in with genuine class he will be sparked out

Get the **** out of here!
    :rofl:rofl:rofl

I'm not going to comment on Macklin because I don't know enough about him, but I've seen enough of Lee and Duddy that I'm confident Lee would beat him handily and most likely stop him.

You may well be right about Williams but how does he get a shot at the WBA?

He has faught no-one ranked whatsoever and he has not got the Euro.

He needs to fight some ranked opponents.

Martinez would murder Lee at this point I feel. Way to early, I'm not saying Andy can't get there but way to early to be talking about Martinez, Williams or a title shot!!!

Duddy has tons of heart....but lacks the skill and punching power to beat And Lee. Duddy might very well make the final bell, but he would at all be in this fight.

I don't necessarily disagree with any of what you're saying.

    My views...

I *DO* believe Andy has a style that can give Williams major fits.

But I agree that he should avoid Martinez at all costs right now. (Ironically, I think Williams will beat Martinez, though).

Andy's had 3 fights since May and he's fighting again in less than two weeks.

If he has another fight in November, and then say he fights Duddy in December....that can do a lot for the man's reputation. If he can follow that up with another win against a decent contender early next year, I believe an announced title shot my March is practical and within the realm of reason.

I know Emanuel is hoping for a timetable that plays out a little something like that. Of course, a cut or a tough fight can be troublesome for this plan.

As for the WBA title fight, I'm just repeating what I believe I heard. That Sturm's people were gauging interest. I could be wrong on this entirely.

Honestly though, at the end of the day, even though I more or less agree with what you are saying, a lot could potentially happen over the course of six months--especially if Andy stays active, and like he said, if he can secure a signature win over someone like Duddy in an exciting televised fight.

Duddy is still huge in New York.

I remember I covered a fight there once at the Garden Theater, and my area was suddenly infiltrated by merry Irishmen who were not supposed to be anywhere near that vicinity.

In terms of top starts Middlewiehgt is lacking. Martinez is the champion and Williams the top contender, but lets be real there best division is 154lbs.

Sylvester and Sturm will just stay in Germany and defend and Pavlik in my opinion is done.

Pirog is a fighter allot of us europeans have rated for a long time. I predicted he would beat Jacobs (all be it on points). He has looked good but is he that good...or was Jacobs just not ready.

While the division doesn't have many top tier guys......theres allot of young guys coming through the rankings.

Gennady Golovkin, Matthew Macklin, Sebastian Zbik, Daniel Geale, Hassan N'Jikam, Mahir Oral, Fernando Guererro all have a chance at winning a title in the next 2 years. Some may pull it off, some will fall short.

The difference between them and Andy Lee is that they are stepping up there competition and fighting ranked guys....Andy Lee isnt.
