Buster Douglas was on the canvas for 13 seconds, this has been proven.

technically the fight should of been ruled a KO win for Tyson earlier on.

if only the referee was capable..

    lets discuss

There is a debate about it on youtube with Tyson and Douglas, Larry Merchant breaks it down, and i think if i remember right, it makes no difference when he picked up the count, his decision is final.

The ref's count is all that matters and since Douglas got up before the referee said "10", he was, quite rightly, allowed to continue. Who's to say that if the referee's count had been accurate to the second, he wouldn't have waited til he got to 8 or 9, then got up?

10 count does not equal 10 seconds.

First off, Tyson is one of my favourite fighters... but...

There`s nothing to discuss, the end result proved if that decision was right for the fight to continue.... because Douglas beat him up & KO`d him (not a lucky punch either as Mike`s had been)

End thread. But I do agree that the referee's failings don't alter reality.

This always seemed odd to me as well. However I believe the sticking point is that Douglas was aware of the count and taking maximum time allowed by the ref. If the ref had started the count sooner, Douglas would have gotten to his feet sooner. He was intently watching the ref the whole time and took his maximum time. The whole 13 seconds thing would only be an issue if Douglas was not steady at the refs count of seven. I believe he was alright at the refs 4 count and then purposefully waited til 9 to get up.

You gotta take into account that Douglas was listening to the ref counting. I don't know if he would get up on 10 had he heard the proper count but it's possible.

Yes, and if the ref put some money on Buster it would take him forever to get to 10. You got 10 seconds, I think that is the rule.

Douglas could have gotten up a lot earlier..Tyson should have had his ass in the neutral corner.

First it's the Tyson-Douglas count, then there's a thread about Tito's handwraps, and now Ali-Cooper. All this is old, old news.
