The Duddy fight will not be made till Paddy's day when it will be huge.

And styles make fights so your observations on Williams are fine though I think I scored it for sergio at the time.

You're probably right, but I still think there's a great chance it could happen on the Cotto under card in December.

I believe I had Williams edging it out.

I honestly can't remember, though. It was a super close fight that was fun to watch. I may have even had it a draw. I'll have to check at some point.

I had Williams Martinez a draw but think Williams wins the rematch.

Lee may look good fighting 15-10 stiffs but lets see him step it up. The best fighter he has faced is Brian Vera and he lost.

:patschAndy Lee got absolutely trounced by limited slugger Brian Vera. I watched that fight and he looked awful. He had a pourous defence and was eating power shot after power shot. Vera is a journeyman at best. Craig McEwan outclassed him and would outclass Andy Lee. :deal:happy:bbb

I'm a big John Duddy fan but I think Lee would stop him in 10 rounds.
Lee seems to perform better when he is in with better opposition. For exapmple - Willie Gibbs.

I am not saying that Andy Lee is the best at 160 but I really do believe like Rumsfeld said he could be a nightmare for paul williams. I also think Andy could beat Sturm but I don't know if he could stop him and therefore it would be a bad move.
Andy should look to fight any of these guys in his nex fight in order of priority
    1> John Duddy (big name)
2> Brian Vera (possible ESPN header!)
    3> Peter Manfredo (highly ranked)
    4> Darren Barker (highly ranked)
5> Dimitry Pirog (dangerous but Andy has the feints and tricks to do it in my opinion).

And how many other Andy Lee fights have you seen since then (2 1/2 years ago)?

  9. andy lee could beat sturm, give paul williams problems and mix it up with the likes of pirog and barker :shock::shock:

exactly what drugs are you on??

Andy Lee has been my favourite boxer these past few years. Not only is he a very good technical boxer with decent power, but he seems to be a really nice guy who is willing to fight anybody to get to the top. His assesment of himself at this point is honest and he admits to having flaws now and in the past, which is admirable.

Ok, he lost to Vera 2&1/2 years ago, but to be fair he was very inexperienced, was suffering from a cold and just had a bad couple of rounds which ultimately lead to his defeat. If you watch the first 5 rounds, Andy totally dominates Vera, even putting him down at one stage. Stamina issues, lack of head movement and the inability to tie up seemed to swing the balance in favour of Vera (who has a granite chin by the way)...

Lee is a much better fighter now, although he still has room for improvement.

If i could map out his next few fights it would go something like:

Fight in 2 weeks against whoever they have lined up
Fight Duddy in Dec on Cotto undercard
Possibly have another fight in Feb/March against another ranked opponent (e.g ChavezJr)
Look to seure a deal for a shot at one of the titles possibly for May/June

I actually think thats a realistic ambition all things considered..

For the record, i reckon Andy wins UD or late stoppage against Duddy, have a bit more difficulty with the likes of Macklin and Barker but I would still expect him to get the job done..

Best of luck to Andy, i'll be supporting him anyway :good

Not being funny but your the one who said that Duddy would totally dominate Lee.. if anyone is on drugs its got to be you..

Not really...rd 6 and 7 were the only rounds that Vera dominated in any way. Not gonna make excuses for Lee losing, Vera won fair and square but it wasn't a trouncing..Vera was nearly out of there after 2 rounds...Lee never got dropped, ok he took heavy shots but he never got dropped...

I'm on general vitamins , water, fruit veg and the odd beer.
Look Darren Barker is a decent technical boxer and I respect him but saying I'm on drugs because I mentioned Lee could beat him is a bit overly defensive of the guy. I don't think judging their one common opponent is a good measure of how they would match up and we will never really know until it happens. The reason why I think Lee could beat Pirog and Sturm is this
1> Lee is a powerful hitter with a decent ko%
2> He has good reach and technical ability
3> He has proved he has a chin and has never tasted the canvass
4> He has good stamina now and has learned and seems to be improving still
5> He has a good team around him

I think Pirog would be akward for anyone but Danny Jacobs is the only real live wire pirog has faced. Sturm has not been in with a big hitter in quite some time and I think any of the top middleweights in Europe Barker/Macklin/Lee/Glovkin/Nikam could potentially beat him.

As for paul williams - he is great but styles make fights and I can see how a tall strong southpaw with technical ability could be difficult for him.

:patsch Lee got trounced? You seen the fight?

yeah right - maybe that is why Vera has turned down four offer to have a rematch with Lee and took other fights for less money.

Your post gets even worse. You think McEwan would "outclass" Lee. Hhmmm, interesting. McEwan is a nice guy, I wish him well but Lee would destroy him - just like he did everytime they fought as amateurs.

All the British/Irish lads need to be just chucked in at the deep end, sink or swim time.

They've been treading water long enough.

Either fight each other or fight the best Americans/Europeans.

Barker hasn't faced anyone good yet, Macklin's last really good opponent was Jamie Moore, McEwans hasn't fought anybody hardly and is knocking on, Lee seems to be just in limbo going from ten rounder to eight rounder and back again achieving nothing.
