True. If Marciano was around today,he may have been a bit bigger. He was about Mike Tyson's height, and if we imagine him at Tyson's prime weight,he'd do very well today. Out of today's lot, only the Klitschkos would give him a proper fight.

If Marciano could bulk up to about 210-215lbs of muscle then I see him defeating all the current Heavyweights.
Maybe it would be unfeasible for Rocky to manage this naturally, but just consider him juiced up on HGH like a certain Mr. Evan Fields.

-Those are the exact measurements as a 217 pound Holyfield.

-None of these measurements are really reflective of bone structure either as they flucuate with weight.

Chris Byrd's tale of the tape:

    Heavyweight - Light Heavyweight

    Weight: 214 ..... 175
    Height: 6’1.5” ..... 6’1.5”
    Reach: 74” ..... 74”
    Chest (normal): 44.5” ..... 38”
    Chest (expanded): 46.5” ..... 42”
    Biceps: 16.5” ..... 14”
    Forearm: 14.5” ..... 12”
    Waist: 35” ..... 30.5”
    Thigh: 24.5” ..... 21.5”
    Calf: 12” ..... 13.5”
    Neck: 18” ..... 16”
    Wrist: 7” ..... 7.5”
    Fist: 12” ..... 11”

-More muscular ripped fighters also appear a bit distorted with these measurements. Did you know Jeff Lacy was bigger than George Foreman?

Yes, and? I said Marciano wasn't very big boned. What do Evander Holyfield's measurements have anything to do with that? Especially when you consider his chest, biceps, and neck were considerably larger, and that fact that Holyfield was always considered a small Heavyweight.

Lets start by looking what he is up against:

    • CHAMPION: Wladimir Klitschko

    • 1. Vitali Klitschko

    • 2. David Haye

    • 3. Alexander Povetkin

    • 4. Tomasz Adamek

    • 5. Ruslan Chagaev

    • 6. Eddie Chambers

    • 7. Denis Boytsov

    • 8. Nikolai Valuev

    • 9. Alexander Dimitrenko

    • 10. Chris Arreola
Now outside of the belholders I think that it is prety academic whether he comes in at 188lbs or 220. Most of these guys are simply not in his class and would have been handeled prety roughly in his era.

With the beltholders things get more interestinmg but they are all prety beatable. Wlad is obviously the best of the bunch, but he has his technical limitations and lacks an inside game. Vitally Klitschko is not getting any younger but the current crop of contenders are unable to capitalize on it due to their limitations. Haye still has serious questions surrounding his stamina and durability.

It's unlikely you'll find a bigger fan of Chagaev on the board than myself, and I find that idea that he could have beaten Marciano absolutely ludicrous.

Just for fun we can contrast 175 lb Byrd and 185 lb Rocky.
    Byrd, Rocky
    Chest: 38, 39
    Biceps: 14, 14
    Forearm: 12, 12
    Waists: 30 1/2, 32
    Thigh: 21 1/2, 22
    Calf: 13 1/2, 14 3/4
    Neck: 16, 16 3/4
    Wrist: 7 1/2, 7 1/2
    Fist: 11, 11 1/2

Is Rocky really too big for Light Heavyweight? Well I'm gonna go eat some chili.

So I guess you missed my point about these tale of the tape measurements having little to do with bone size? Enjoy your delicious chilli of deliberate blissful ignorance.

And seriously, Rocky could probably starve himself down to 100 lbs on a Concentratoin Camp diet....so?

For pure boxing ability - even just getting down to basic technique - and experience and natural ability - the present bunch are leagues below the guys around in Marciano's era - they can't even hold a torch to the likes of Jersey Joe Walcott, Ezz Charles, Archie Moore - they are not even close - - the closest is David Haye and surprise surprise he's come up from Cruiserweight - he is still a way off in the know-how department but he has natural ability and is at least capable of out fighting people - Vit and Vlad can only dominate people who are clueless and uninspired and who are generally slow witted - David Haye at least is quick witted and can't be dominated - the next best is probably Adamek again surprise surprise he came up from the cruisers - the big big guys don't really know how to fight whatsoever - the only reason they get buy is by sheers length and size against people who don't have the imagination to do anything particularly special - Vlads last fight which was supposed to be one of his more impressive was just awful - absolutely awful and if he doesn't have a home town referee he definately would've got stopped he fights scared because he doesn't have confidence in his own chin - I've never seen anyone get away with so much flagrant holding - it was really a joke (literally one punch and then grab before Peter can really even move - and for long periods) - they're not natural fighters - they are programmed by their corner men and the go out and attempt to carry out what their cornermen want them to try to do (and struggle to do that how their cornermen really want them to do it) - they can't really think on their feet in their - Marciano would wipe the floor with anyone who couldn't really fight naturally so I'd say the only one to give him awkward moments would be Haye

How about a 160 lb Taylor?

    Byrd, Rocky, Taylor
    Chest: 38, 39, 44
    Biceps: 14, 14, 16.5
    Forearm: 12, 12, 14
    Waists: 30 1/2, 32, 31
    Thigh: 21 1/2, 22, 18
    Calf: 13 1/2, 14 3/4, 12
    Neck: 16, 16 3/4, 17,
    Wrist: 7 1/2, 7 1/2, 7,
    Fist: 11, 11 1/2, 13,

....Uh oh..maybe Marciano and Byrd could make middle weight too! :nut

Haye would be the biggest puncher Marciano faced with advantages in speed, power, strength and size. On the inside Haye gets crucified however and a Marciano who uses modern bodybuilding bulking tactics gets the win imo, a 185lb Marciano is a toss up though
