We all know who Alan Rudkin is. One of the very best British fighters of all time and a brilliant Bantamweight. I don't need to explain any more, the guy is a bona fide legend, and nothing can take that away. Unfortunatly, Alan has passed. RIP. As AlFrancis posts on here, thought his father deserved a thread in his memory. I'm so glad Al was able to give me footage of his Dad and arange for me to send a letter. Thanks Al.
Very sorry to hear this sad news. My condolences to Al and his family. Alan Rudkin was a very good, world class fighter who allways gave his best ,and had the misfortune to peak at the same time as ATG's, like Olivares , Rose and Harada. I well remember Alan's two terrific fights with Walter McGowan, the Scottish master boxer, nip and tuck ,all the way. Alan Rudkin honoured his calling as a professional boxer. R. I. P.
I am very sorry to hear this. When Al has posted things on here about his dad, the love and true regard he has for him was always very evident. When I recently went through the same Al reached out to me, and I will never forget that. My thoughts will be with him and his dad today. Hang in there, buddy. You and your dad are both class acts. Chinx.
My condolences to his family and especially to Al...This is a real shock and very, very sad. He was great fighter.
Very sad news indeed. When Alan fought Lionel Rose in Melbourne he was entitled to feel a trifle cheated by the scoring against him by two of the local judges and Australian boxing in general. The fact Alan took the result with class and dignity and formed a close bond with Lionel Rose himself afterwards is a measure of his qualities as a person. There is a classic photo that Al used to have as an avatar of Alan making a cup of tea for Lionel post fight. This single picture speaks a thousand words of sportsmanship and mutual respect between two great fighters and now friends. Sympathies to Al,all his family and friends. R.I.P.
A classy pro, who built up his career the proper way. In his pomp it took the very best a then amazing Bantamweight division had to offer and (seemingly) hometown robberies to beat him. In this era of more TV coverage, I suspect he would had even more plaudits.
