Just a quick one - found this pic while tinkering around online - never seen it prior to today - does anyone know who he might be fighting with here?? According to the website the pic is dated 1910 but it doesn't name the combatant Johnson is facing here?? Anyone care to fill in the blank for me?? This content is protected
I would take a guess it's probably Kid Cotton, and Jack is sparring prior to the Jeffries fight,incidentally Cotton split Johnson's lip in sparring and Jeffries reopened it during their fight.
See no ring, thus is cant be a real fight perhaps. Perhaps Johnson is in training for a title defense in 1910. Perhaps against Jeff?
Great photo, not seen this before. I'd take the same guess - if it's 1910, George 'Kid' Cotton, who was his most regular sparring partner before the Jeffries fight and a part of the travelling team, is the most likely possibility. No ring, so it's a pretty informal session.
