i'm going to say michael watson....and not because of what happened, but because of his style, he was so good to watch...i was young enough at the time but watching him outfox nigel benn stuck with me for a long time...the way he used the open glove for extra protection, he was so tough too and brave as fook...and when that happened against eubank he was getting better all the time...he hadnt reached his best...
i nearly cried the night mc callum busted him up....only other fight i can think had that affect on me was watching jim mc donnell against azumah nelson...
watson was old school, a proper throwback to the style of boxing i was watching on old video tapes at the time, elbows tucked well in...
he wasnt the best in his weight at the time, but he was my favourite.

Kenny Thriller Mcullough The first fighter I got to train. Didnt listen to a dam word I said, but it was always a party when he fought. Retired with a record of 11-15.

    Rocky Marciano:

A short (for a heavyweight) stocky guy with short and stubby arms and tree trunks for legs. He could knock you out cold with 1 punch but he could also destroy you mentally and physically with a barage of bone shattering punches to the arms and mid section. Not the prettiest fighter to watch, but he got the job done every single time, usually knocking the other guy out. His determination, amazing stamina, hard punching, and his iron jaw made him a tough night for anyone.

Defence was not his forte, but he had more than is often given credit for. On the inside fighters often had to be prepared for elbows, punches to the hips, and headbutts because Marciano was always active and looking for a way to hurt whoever stood infront of him. He was not a very fast or mobile fighter, and often threw his punches too wide or telegraphed his punches, but his short, compact arms were a nightmare when they even glanced the oponent.

Truly great post.Great.As I read it I got chills and memories. As a fellow Chava fan,I gotta tell ya that in retrospect,my favorite boxing night ever was when Chava hammered Gomez.I saw it on closed circuit in the old Felt Forum segment of MSG with a friend that was from El Salvador. We were the only ones in the place on for Chava as Gomez was a Puerto Rican icon and the FF had a capacity crowd of Boriquas that night.Gomez was a heavy betting favorite but when Chava knocked him down early,we knew the inevitable.Due to Gomez's extremely unnecessarily foul and racist comments before the fight,we were ecstatic. When the fight was stopped in the 8th,the only noise you could hear was my buddy and I celebrating as raucously as possible.I still get chills just thinking about it.RIP,Chava:goodThanks for the contri,SSFan:good
