Well it's pretty easy to see the difference in Ali between the two fights. The cards are on the table regarding his physical health, and there's no doubt they are soaked with fact.

Hell, Ali was shot 3 years earlier let alone adding time and his physical drama's.

The win for me is a total wipe.

Holmes top 3? I'm unconvinced. Even tho i think Holmes won the rematch Spinks had only got more comfortable at heavyweight and Holmes a bit older and rustier. Whether Holmes could have beaten guys like Tucker, Douglas, Holyfield etc is highly debatable.

The Holmes win was better, but still nothing in the context of how a Holmes - Tyson fight may have gone peaked. We can look at it and say Tyson put in a fine day at the office beating an awkward customer with a good chin, but to slice it into Tyson beating even a good version of Holmes would be BS.

With Ali - Holmes given the condition Ali was in, we'd be very hard pressed to say he beat a top 25 fighter. To put it in perspective, RJJ would have probably beat that Ali.

Holmes essentially struggled with nearly every quality fighter he ever faced. Go down the list, Weaver, Norton, Shavers, Snipes, Cooney, Spoon, etc.
The only real dominate performance he put in that's truly awe inspiring is the first bout with Shavers, but even then he was dropped and nearly put out in the rematch.

I rank Holmes 6-7 all time, but this whole "he's the most under rated heavyweight champion" thing and being "more than even money against Ali" thing that's been going around lately is getting out of hand imo.

I don't like to be hating on Larry which I feel I've been doing lately, but he's not an Ali or Louis and most certainly isn't under rated anymore.

No it is not underated. I think most people see that fight for what it was and anyone who does think its underated needs their head examined. Ali was completely gone as a fighter. Now i admire Holmes as a fighter but he seems to be the only guy ive ever seen or heard who makes a big deal out of this fight. He clearly has (or had) a huge chip on his shoulder regarding Ali, his achievements, and his popularity IMO

I cant seem to get the interview you posted. Having a bit of bother with the PC. However, in later years larry has seemed to mellow towards Ali, he doesnt seem as angry but before that he did seem to me like he had a serious chip on his shoulder regarding Ali. Just my opinion and i stand by it:good

Holmes, to his credit, never accepted any accolades for this fight, other than to express being relieved that (hopefully) he'd been removed from Ali's shadow.

In real fistic terms, to celebrate over this would be the equivalent of kissing one's biceps over a good heavybag workout.

Underrated only if you consider a victory over a totally shot, inactive, Parkinsons suffering human punching bag Ali to be a meaningful win. Ugh. On that night, ANY top 10 heavyweight would have beaten Ali. He was horrid. Just awful. And yes Holmes looked great, and he was great, but then, just about anyone would look great against a guy who could no longer fight back but could take it.
