This is truly one of the dumbest, most ill-informed statements I have ever read on this board.

    "131" is my response.

Yes I am...and I do understand the advanced practices of weight cutting. However, one must take into consideration...Marciano trained like no other. The man burned thousands of calories a day...his workouts were designed to make him trim off large amounts of weight. When you look at his body, he was a chizzled no fat 185lb. Even with sauna/dry suits the day before, I still can't imagine him going any lower than 178lb before he reallu starts to suffer severe fatigue and dehydration. Even if he somehow manages it, and gets fluids back into his system..his performance will suffer. Marciano would be emaciated at 175lb.

Today I think Rocky would be a top contender and winning the championship would be possible but not guaranteed for him. He'd probably fight closer to 200 pounds.

Rocky's computer fight when he was about 45 years old with Ali was showbiz, but to me it looks like Rocky was around 200 pounds for that one, and he carried the weight fairly well for his age. I heard he trained seriously for the computer match and it certainly looks that way on film.

A prime, 200 pound, well-conditioned Rocky could still be very successful in 2010, but when he starts out as an unknown some would be saying he's too small to go very far in the heavyweight division.

Rocky's punching power would bring him success. He was small, yes, but he could punch like hell (as Teddy Atlas would say). It also wouldn't hurt if Charlie Goldman were his trainer.

I think the Rock would go far with Goldman in his corner. Again.

He would win many but constantly fighting and getting hit by larger much heavier men would take its toll in due time. Beating either Klitschko brother is not happening.

A 200 lbs Rocky would not have the same stamina as he had at 185 lbs. There was a reason why he chose to weigh at 185 lbs during his time - that was his best weight.

With rgard to Marciano making 175lbs, I am not going to say never, but I think it is unlikley. People predicting that he can make 175 are effectivley combining the weight cutting practices of two different eras to get the number. They are using the 1950s roadwork to get him down to 185, and then using modern dehydration/rehydration methods to cut his weight further.

Apart from employing both being an unlikley trainig programe in itself, we dont know what detrimental effects it would produce on his body to put it through this.

At 185-189 pounds, and 67" reach, Rocky would not be un-defeated.

I think he would win his share. He would be in the top ten, but I also think he is going to lose his share too.

    I will explain.

These days fights are 12 rounds, and cut stoppages happen much sooner. If 12 rounds were the standard, and quicker stoppages for cuts and swelling applied in the 40's and 50's, Rocky looses twice, perhaps three times.

The boxers hit much harder today, and at the top make much more money. Rocky's chin is untested vs big time punchers, and his focus would be challenged if he won a belt and made a lot of money.

I don't think he would beat either Kltishcko.

-He who smelt it, usually delt it. Don't act butt hurt because your measurement theory was exposed as bull****.

-Given that the thread is about Marciano in TODAY'S HEAVYWEIGHT SCENE...maybe you should stick to the topic instead of dragging your insecurites with you.

-Again, nobody is saying a still fairly young Rocky making 175 is impossible...its just not very likely and plausible given his well documented training methods and weight flucations. Honestly, I'm not sure why a guy who could compete with 190-220 lb men would have to drain himself to fight naturally smaller men....but eh, whatever helps you sleep better?

I'm not saying he wont do a 16mile or even 20mile run, doing it every day as you know as a runner is not the best type of training even for a runner let alone a heavyweight boxer
