Which TWO FIGHTS would you show a novice to prove an ATG fighter's abilities?

Now, before the responses start, this thread is NOT asking for your chosen fighter's two best performances.

The question here is a little different. We are asking for two fights:

    - The first fight will involve the losing opponent in the second fight but not your chosen fighter

    - The second fight will involve the fighter showcased in Fight One vs your chosen fighter

    For example:

Pernell Whitaker is one of my favourite fighters, and in my opinion he is the closest thing boxing has ever seen to the perfect fighter.

If someone asked me to name his greatest performance, I'd probably go with the win over Greg Haugen.

However, if I was attempting to answer the question posed by this thread, my second fight would not be Haugen, my picks would be thus:

Fight One: Buddy McGirt vs Simon Brown

Fight Two: Pernell Whitaker vs Buddy McGirt II

Similarly, if someone asked me what was Roy Jones's finest all-round performance, I'd say Reggie Johnson. But, if I was answering this thread-Q with regard to Roy, I'd go for:

Fight One: James Toney vs Iran Barkley

Fight Two: Roy Jones Jr vs James Toney

The reasons being that I don't believe Greg Haugen was as good a fighter as Buddy McGirt, and I don't believe he ever looked as good as Buddy did in the Brown fight, and I don't believe Reggie Johnson was as good a fighter as James Toney, and I don't believe Reggie ever looked as good as James did in the Barkley fight.

If you showed a novice fan McGirt-Brown and Toney-Barkley, they would (and rightly so) think that Buddy and James were amazing fighters...

...so if you then showed them Whitaker-McGirt II and Jones-Toney, their jaws would surely hit the floor! :yikes

So, what would your picks be for fighters that you believe have ATG calibre abilities? :bbb

PS: I think even a novice fan unfamiliar with the sport would still be able to tell the difference between a prime and a shot version of a fighter, ie showing Roberto Duran beating down Esteban deJesus at lightweight in the 70s then showing William Joppy stopping Roberto Duran at middleweight in the 90s would most certainly not showcase the greatness of Joppy! That won't fly!!

Your second fight is showing fighter A beating fighter B.

Your first fight is showing how good fighter B was.

Rocket science this is not!

It's a great idea, and triggers some intriguing thought processes. But the downside is that, without knowing the history, you could get some completely deceptive results. Consider:

    Ali-Frazier (Thrilla in Manila)
    Berbick-Ali

yeah but Berbick isn't an ATG. If anyone makes that mistake they should be banned permanently
