This was an important development fight for the young, green Tyson & it also gave him more confidence in his stamina, observable in his next fight with Mitch Green. I think the apparent closeness of this fight has been overblown due to it's reputation as Tyson's first fight to go the distance. Judge Tony Moret was accurate with his scoring of 8-2 for Tyson & if it was scored using a 10 point system, Tyson would be a further point ahead due to the impressive knockdown in round 4.

whatching on tv 6-4 tillis. I have oficialy judged thousands of fights. with the advantage of sevral angles tillis looks the winner, he landed enough punches with suficient force with the knuckle part of the glove to win more rounds. maybe if I were ringside and tillis had his back to me during the exchanges he won I could have been swayed by tysons greater impresion with fewer shots.

I think it was Alex Wallu who said that Tillis gave us the blueprint for beating Tyson. I thought the fight was close but that Tyson edged it.

The Tyson who faced Tillis was green & still learning, but he was a far superior fighter to the man who was stopped in Tokyo. If Tyson had lethargically came forward against Tillis, presented a stationary target & only threw 23 predictable, telegraphed headhunting punches a round, Tillis would have decisioned him. An aging 35 year old Berbick was dominating Tyson in sparring for the Douglas fight, that in itself shows how poorly prepared & deteriorated skillwise he was, under the pathetic training of incompetent Snowell.

Tillis won, but he gave Mike all sorts of trouble. I use this fight, plus Smith when making my argument why a peaked Ali schools Mike.

Mike won a close fight without the knockdown, the knockdown, imo, makes it impossible to dispute.

I rescored this 8 to 2 for Tyson. Again, I ask, which rounds does Tillis win here.

Tillis use v.poor-mans' Ali-style to out-box Tyson. :deal

Smith were nearly as good at tieing-up/clinchin' as Ali And he won 5/12 ROunds by inteligent tie-up And lean plann. :deal

You people are ****ing deluded. Just because Tillis defused Tyson to a mere excellent mortal does not mean he won. He merely survived and had a few flourishes whilst Tyson provided the truly meaningful offense. He threw a few roadblocks in his way but was still run over.

Pushing, clinching, and landing a few random uppercuts does not trump the thudding, more frequent, hooks and crosses that Tyson landed. Truly, this fight is not even close.

Again, list the rounds that you think Tillis won and we will review together.

i watched it awhile back on classic..i didnt bother to watch it here..so i am not sure what rounds i had for tills..but it was only 2 or 3 rounds...but many of the rounds that tyson won....where close rounds..hence it was a close fight in overall action..but not very close in rounds...at least in my eyes.

I think this suspect scoring is more a reaction to expectations of Tyson being the man destroyer in the ring he was against lesser opposition rather than him actually winning a yeoman like effort where his skills are tested but are clearly above his foe.

Prime-Peak Tyson??? That was still somewhat of a green Tyson. Watch him against Holmes or Biggs who had the same style as Tillis and they got demolished. There's also sparring footage of Tyson a couple years later with Tillis and he made easy work of him.

Anyone who scored this clear Tyson win for Tillis needs to get his head out of his ass.

Its funny that Between Tillis and Smith, in 24 rounds they maybe won four combined, MAYBE and somehow thats the blueprint to beat Tyson... If thats what you call a blueprint Id hate to see you design a bridge.
