Tell me this - what percentage of intensity do you think Berbick fought at vs Ali.

If you think the Bean REALLY floored Holmes them you haven't seen the fight ;)

That would actually be quite an interesting match-up. Holmes really rolled back the years on that one. Hardly any post-Manilla version of Ali should really be too much of a favourite against this version of Holmes.

Another funny was you thought it was the 12th round when the fight was actually 10 :D

Agreed. Makes Holmes' claim for kudos in the Ali fight ridiculous.

The 1977 Ali would decision the Holmes who beat Mercer. As shopworn as Muhammad was in '77,he was still a pace or two faster than the 1992 incarnation of Holmes.

The thing is though,as shot and sick on the thyrolar as Muhammad was in that fight,he could still take a superhuman amount of punishment. I'm not saying that Holmes could n't have ended it earlier, but it would n't have been by more than 2/3 rounds, imo.

It was sad seeing Holmes fight at that age,and weight. He seems pretty healthy now,but who knows what effect this will have in years to come.

Larry's turning 60 now and in great stead. Many non boxers don't even live this long or have severe drama's. Larry's done great regardless of the future.

Did you see Trevor sleepwalking against ST Gordon? For Berbick, I thought Ali was a solid effort. In the clinches, he did let his hands go, and unloaded some hard shots. I don't believe he expected to be able to knock Ali out, and played for a points win. (What was Berbick's best knockout after Tate? Racette? Sutcliffe? Sims? He was a decent puncher, but never could have taken Ali inside of ten.)

William Joppy really doesn't get enough damn credit for beating Roberto Duran even better than Ray Leonard managed...

Well, at least Duran still had a couple of wins in front of him, and a total of four more fights against decent competition. Joppy did punch him into submission, and nobody else aside from a peak Hearns was ever able to do that in over 33 years. Camacho took out SRL between Duran's taking Hector the 12 round route twice (and getting robbed of the decision the first time.) Beating Duran was no great feat, but stopping him like that was still unique. (Remember, El Cholo was planning on continuing after Camacho II, figuring that if Hector couldn't take him out, then no man could. That career ending car crash was something different though.)
