Gerry Penalosa, one of the greatest fighters the Philippines has ever produced, and one of my personal favorites, has weighed-in on the upcoming match-up between Manny Pacquiao and Antonio Margarito. Its Mannys time. Hes the world number #1 pound-for-pound fighter. Nobody can beat him in his division. The key is his quickness. I dont think Margarito can touch him. Hes too slow for Manny. Im not worried about his height. Manny has beaten fighters who were taller than him, like Oscar De La Hoya. Manny will turn Margarito into a punching bag. Discuss.
This Margarito is likely to impersonate the punching bag, after all, Roach pushed for the Mexican instead of "too dangerous" Yuri Foreman. But no disrespect to Penalosa, he knows what a human punchingbag is like.
No disrespect? :blood Juan Manuel Lopez is now fighting at ****ing Featherweight. No wonder he got dominated, Gerry ain't even really a legitimate Bantamweight! He came out of that fight elevated, how many fighters would have took that beating and still come back with the odd good shot? Penalosa is a credit to the sport.
I gave him the same amout of respect he gave Margarito, one punching bag to another. Don't you think he should give Margarito a little more respect?
At least the other "punching bag" despite being a midget didn't need a knuckleduster in being one. The Fearless one has enough moral ascendancy to call Plasterito what he'd like to.
Gerry could have probably worded his answer better, but I don't think he was being intentionally disrespectful, he just thinks it's a stylistic mismatch. Penalosa only played the role as punching bag when he was outgunned in every conceivable way, and even then he fought back and never yielded.
"Plasterito" never entered a fight with plasters based on the evidence we currently have, and in civilized law you are innocent until proven guilty. So what moral ascendancy are you talking about? Roach chose Margarito over "too dangerous" Yuri Foreman because he feels he's badly past it, so I can only imagine Penalosa speaks from the heart when he calls him a punching bag.
Between you and me, it's one of the most disrespectful comments one fighter can make to another. But then again, coming from Penalosa is rather ironic, and I just pointed out the obvious fact.
As I say, I don't think he was being intentionally disrespectful. Gerry hasn't had a history of trash talking fighters, he just tends to think Manny's speed will be the determining factor in this particular match-up.
Dude. He said. "He'll. Turn. Margarito. Into. A. Punching. Bag." Are we really having this conversation? One punching bag disrespected another. I have no problems with it just pointed out it's irony.
He's probably right though isn't he? Margarito will most likely assume the role as punching bag, similarly to how did against Shane Mosley. Unfortunately for Margarito, he won't have the same acceptable excuses Gerry had for his fight with Juan Manuel Lopez. Y'know, being past prime, fighting a young up and comer who had sparked out the majority of his competition, and who is now operating at 126lbs. All these things. I do give Margarito more chance than most, though.
If Margarito said "Freddie Roach will turn into a human vegetable" he'd probably be right too, but it's still very disrespectful. And if Ali said that, you'd probably see the irony. Let's just be a little more respectful, shall we?
