By Louis's own admission and by many's estimation, his best condition/appearance was the Baer/Simon rematches and he was floatin' round 207. I think that was the best version, and seeing him tee off on platinum chinned Baer like that I have to agree.
Louis looks plenty strong here: This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected
i believe joe louis at his zenith [Max Baer] weighed 198-200 pounds. Dempsey at his best about 187 or so...the weight difference between prime jack and prime louis would be NO factor whatsoever in the outcome of their bout...NONE... I happen to think that Kearns and Dempsey knowing about Louis's great combinations would devise a plan to counter or negate trading with Joe until the proper moment ...dempsey, when young could move very well, until he was in range for his great left hook..in close Dempsey was known for his roughness, and ability to hurt a man while almost in a clinch.. Of course Louis hit so hard himself, that anything can happen...Louis was more one dimensioinal than Dempsey, therefore i favor Jack at his best over Louis...no bets for me though...
Ali...louis had trouble with good movers...and ali was the best...I agree louis is favored over dempsey...however, louis was a bit susptable in the first few rounds until he got the mans timing. Dempsey would start very fast...and hence might catch him....of course klitschos and lewis would be hard fights...
A peak Foreman would have an excellent chance due to his brute force and power punching. An old Foreman though...???? :huh
I'd say Ali and Tyson. I just don't like his chances against Tyson. I'd perhaps even give him a better chance against Ali.
You say Ali, and then state that he had trouble with good movers; and then you say he will still be favored against Dempsey. What do you mean? Dempsey is probably the fastest HW after Ali. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3wxHY3p9DiQ[/ame] He wasn't only fast, he was also extremely agressive and packed dynamite in his both hands. A wide margin of ppl., boxers, boxing experts and trainers who saw them both fighting in their prime, said that Dempsey was the better one. There aren't too many fights recorded with Dempsey in his prime. There's only the Bill Tate sparring, the Willard massacre and the ultra-rare Fred Fulton destruction. Dempsey is probably the worst match-up for Louis.
Dempsey had trouble with black fighters - Due to the slightly darker skin pigmentation he found it harder to judge the timing of his punches. This could be true but sadly we never got the opportunity to find out. Louis would dispose of Dempsey easily - Louis managed a longer reign and didnt neglect to fight a specific race of people when champion.
