I like him but he needs to make the step up soon.

    Always entertaining but unproven.

Looks like Golden Boy may be offering him a fight with Victor Ortiz on the Khan undercard. Not sure if the higher weight will be any good for him.

He's fought at 140 and above quite a few times in the past. Granted it was against lesser opposition, but I don't think a higher weight will be too much of a problem for him. In fact, if I remember correctly, I think Murray has struggled to make 135 in the past. I'm not sure if I'm confusing him with someone else.

Rees is hardly a world beater himself although Im sure he'd kill Murray. Mitchell vs Rees would be good.

    Rees..haha.

I like watching John Murray fight, I don't think he's doing much against a world class boxer though because he walks rather than cutting the ring off. That's a huge flaw, it makes him easy to prepare for.

Did you see the way he stepped around Thaxton when in close though, to get new angles? Thought that was quite nifty.

Otherwise you're right - he always comes through the front door, never from the sides. That would kill him against Khan.

    I'm a fan.

He does do some nice subtle things with regards his foot movement. His defence has improved since moving up to British level though still needs some work. The jab is a punch he seriously neglects, he has a very solid, jab that can be used to set up his attacks but he needs to use it more often. He's possibly one of the best body punchers in Britain as well.

I've heard about this Ortiz fight and whilst Murray would be a big underdog, he's exactly the type of opponent who could make it hell for Ortiz and take his heart away.

Overall, a very underrated fighter by some on here. I don't know where this "Mitchell beats Murray" stuff comes from, Murray would catch up with him and smash him.

He does okay in working angles when he's in his comfort zone, in close. But in terms of cutting an opponent down? His jab is not consistent enough, he shoud use it more but often to occupy but usually he'll put the ear muffs on and just plough ahead. It also makes it hard for him to counter when he's got the muffs on his head which makes him predictable, you kinda know he's only going to throw a right hand if you're not doing anything from long range, apart from that he's only going to work you over in close.

Somebody that gets on their bike, pops off a few shots, gets on their bike again, ties him up when he gets close is going to frustrate him quite badly at the moment.

mr murray is o.k. to watch imo, he's perfecting his style, i woulden't be keen on his chances with ortiz, but he's strong, resiliant, and to be fair i diden,t fancy burns chances with martinez. :good

McAllister made him look one dimensional for half the fight but looked very good against badly faded Thaxton.and pretty formidable against Buckland.
Again Mitchell would be a good test, someone who can bang and box.

there was an article about him in todays Manchester Evening News. it hasn't made it onto the website yet, but it hinted that the main difference between John Murray and Juan Manuel Marquez is that JMM is better promoted and so more well known, whereas murray has been quietly getting on with the job to build up a fearsome 29-0 record :nut

having said that i like murray and i just think its a shame that his career didn't take off after winning that wbc youth title

Not how I remember it. Mcallister looked good for two rounds, then Murray started timing him. Soon as the right hand started connecting, Mcallister's confidence went.

I dunno i remember McAllister staying on the outside boxing him quite and handily and Murray getting frustrated rushing in with his forearm pushing McAllisters head back a couple of times but it may have only been a couple of rounds
