Yea I'd say it was more a matter of his feet/reactions being so slow he couldnt get his best shots off

I don't say he couldn't but I say that guys like Brion (twice!), Agramonte and Shkor wouldn't have gone the distance with him a few years before. In his last ten fights, Louis scored 3, I think, KO's, a career's worst.

    He could still hit though.

Did he get Valentino out faster or slower than Ezzard?

Valentino was blind in one eye.
In the ten fights of his comeback Louis scored 3 stoppages and one of those was on cuts.
Louis himself said ." I could see openings but my reactions were too slow to take advantage of them",and,"my right hand dont leave me no more".
Louis said that in his prime he thought he would have ko 'd Charles in 6/7 rds.

Even the very moderate Andy Walker went into the 10th rd before being tkod.

How many right hands did Louis throw at Marciano?

Some beautifully timed shots landed by Louis right here eh? Checkout that final right hand followed by the left hook...just lethal. Sure the old man had slowed down considerably, he couldn't put punches in bunches anymore. but when he landed one shot flush, you could still feel the force of that punch! Guys still froze like they been shot.

Louis relied on speed and timing as much as power. Agreed, his reflexes were on the slide by 1950. Never a clubbing type of puncher like George Foreman, Louis's power did not age well.

Maybe you should watch this film. Did you see that final right hand he landed on Valentino? It had a lot of force behind it, thrown with extreme precision, perfect timing. Valentino froze like he been shot. Then Louis followed it with a huge left hook, and valentino was out....COLD. The same Valentino who earlier that year, defeated Turkey Thompson pretty easily.

If you want to compare Foreman and Louis...Louis had as many knockouts against top 10 opposition in the 1950s as Foreman did in the 1990s. Louis would have steamrolled through that pile of crap foreman feasted on 1987-1991. Foremans power in the 1990s is extremley overrated, most of the good men foreman fought took him the distance.

this is not vintage louis but it is a world class fighter knocking out another world class fighter - and in some style! another fighter putting out this form would be considered a hot contender at worse.

So then Louis was still dangerous against men who stood in front of him...correct?

No one came out of a fight with Louis without taking some damage.

pat looked in shape and looked like hed been schooled and worn down. Louis didnt have the speed of old but he knew how to place a shot and create an opening, at this stage he is effective. takes him longer but gets the job done like a good vetran. Louis did well to put pat down like that with the big gloves on.

GreatA, You could say that again.

Quesiton For SuizeQ. If Louis had all sorts of power, why did he only score 3 Ko's in his last 10 fights?

And let's be clear here one of them came in the last round vs. a joruneyman in Andy Walker who 10 times in his career...and the other 9 guys did it faster than Louis.

I think the evidence here is rather clear. Louis was not a KO puncher in the 50's
