Lets forget the handwraps for now........ The first 6 rounds were epic, no doubt. My personal fave is the Judah fight
The guy used to survive on being so tenacious and brave but Margo broke him albeit possibly cheating. Nevertheless Cotto will go down as a quality fighter. 3 weight champ winning legit belts, beating legit fighters and reinventing himself. Awesome. I want to see the Cotto vs Margo rematch though!
:deal Cotto is a throwback to a bygone era, says that he will fight anybody and actually backs up his promises, one of the very few fighters of the modern generation who we can all look back on and genuinely say that he ducked no man.
As others have his resume is one of the best around, he has been managed brilliantly throughout his career. His resume at 140 is underrated in fact I would say that it is better then Ricky's, the only thing missing was becoming the true champ at 140. He only moved up when it became very clear he could not make weight anymore and there was nothing worth sticking around for other then Ricky and 147 really was stacked. So he moved up for the right reasons which is more then can be said for a lot of fighters who move up in weight Cough Soto, Cough Lopez, Cough Donaire, Cough Guerrero damn I have a nasty cough today.
Horrible dirty fighter out on his feet many times in his make or break fight and resorted to many low blows and headbuts and the fight was never the same.
One of my favourite fighters. Pre Margarito he was untouchable. I always wanted to see him fight Hatton.
Honestly Pre Marg Cotto is my favorite boxer, the way he cut the ring down and stalked his prey i loved it. He always worked the body to good effect whipping on the deadly left hook brilliant. And it woulda been good if he fought Hatton but when I asked Hatton about fighting Cotto all I got was 'how bout you fight the lad' classic.
I remember him telling reporters that he had Cotto's number. Yet never made him an offer as far as I know. Funny that...
