Bernard Hopkins, Marvin Hagler, Carlos Monzon Breakdown:Who was the best?

I'm gonna go with Hagler but unfortunately I don't know enough about Monzon.

I guess the greatest MWs of all time would be

1. Greb
2. SRR
3. Hagler
4. BHOP
5. Monzon

 

Great list. I personally hold Sugar Ray Robinson's Welterweight years in higher regard than his Middleweight. (Obviously.)

My views don't necessarily reflect the opinions of Colton in the video, even though I agree with most of what he says, well really almost all of it.... I just thought he had a nice presentation that you guys should check out more than anything. The guy knows his boxing history.

Monzon's era was different, there was less titles, and fighters spent long time padding records.

Based on opposition beaten

Hagler: Mugabi, Hearns, Duran, Minter
Monzon: Benvenuti, Griffith, Napoles, Valdez
Hopkins: Trinidad, ODLH, Joppy, Johnson/holmes

But it is still tough when considering dominance, longitivity, and taking account their losses at MW.....

Hopkins beats both though H2H.

All 3 were dominant champions, solid chins, technically sound fighters. Also the close decision losses Hopkins and Hagler had at the end of their reigns could also be considered as wins which would change it up aswell.

Grebs era is too early to really compare with Hagler and Hopkins

Hagler is the best of the bunch for me. Incredible resume. Ambidextrous. Legendary chin and heart. Great technical.

 

And what of Robinson? Tell me how I can watch him at his peak as a welterweight. Held by most as the best welter that ever lived. Can you turn me on to any of his peak fights at that weight?

 

All three are equally good in my opinion. 50/50 match-ups between any of them.

Greb beat Gene Tunney and its rumored he beat Jack Dempsey in an exhibition. Nuff said really.

 

If we're just talking MW champions, he beat 5. :scaredas:

The Tunney win really helps his resume. However, i still think that it's a bit overrated of a win, Tunney wasn't really at his peak until their series was coming to a close IMO.
