Sweet C - one of the finest ring technicians we had, who never quite "made it" to the big time recognition his talent merited. Except for any serious pop in his punches he prettty much had all the tools, and was superb in outboxing Maurizio Stecca to win the WBO title.
However the shoulder injury pretty much ended his career, as he never was quite the same after that, still had a decent run of wins (barring the Robinson loss) after he returned but never was able to realize his full potential due to the limitations of his shoulder.

Put up a tremendous show of heart too in his last fight against Paul Ingle. Was sad to watch it, as McMilllan was a faded force by then despite winning the British title, but I remember being moved at how much heart Colin showed in what was a brutal beating administered by the up and coming Ingle to win the British title.

McMillan has always been one of my favourite domestic boxers.

 

thats my time too....it's kinda why appriciate youtube so much....i was a big collector of vhs boxing tapes back then, before google...used to answer ad's in the back of boxing monthly....i had 130 boxing tapes stolen from the garage where i lived at the time and hundreds of magazines, that was in england, i got pissed of with that and other stuff and moved back to ireland....it gutted me losing those tapes as they cost me a fortune...there was everything from old jack johnson bouts to paul sykes fights to mc guigan fights...
another thing that i fondly remember from the early 90's was pro-box on screensport....barry mcguigan was an excellent commentator back then, before he became a company man...remember watching herbie hides very early fights on it and telling everyone he was the second coming of ali

i remember sending away for the roberto duran v iran barkley fight on vhs, you could get something like 3 fights on one tape or something...i knew the result of the fight, but would still be waiting and looking forward to it arriving, then when it would come, sitting down and watching it maybe 3 times in a row and digesting it all....
hard to explain with the instant watch now of youtube...but there was something great about waiting and looking forward to it.....although, i really appriciate youtube now...i have seen stuff on there, that if it still was early 90's, i'd be spending a fortune on just to see...

 

recall an older mcmillan have great fights with yorkshiremen jonjo irwin and paul ingle. the latter had so many punches and was regarded as one of the fights of that year by boxing news.

Colins still involved, runnin barking ams who he used to box for, puts on quite a few shows a year mainly at the Prince Regent Hotel in Essex...........

Me too! Used to save up all my pocket money in my early youth and get tapes from Paul Petrou (a brilliant trader who's list of fights had to be seen to be believed, it was literally as thick as a telephone directory, and his service far outshone most of those about now). You could get a 3 or 4hr VHS tape full with however many fights could be squeezed on there (which of course depends on the lengths of the fights) all for £10 or £12 per tape.
Used to save up and buy a bunch at once, and the moment the postman brought that package, I'd suddenly become "ill" and not be able to go to school that day...

As great as it is living in the age now where information and resources are instantly at the touch of a button (YouTube, Boxrec, etc) and I'm not complaining about them either as I think they're great, there was something a little bit more magical back then.

I always remember Jim Watt v Sean O'Grady, that was a great era in British Boxing...:good

Plus lots lots more... Auntofermo v Minter, when Minter won the title got me sold on this sport that night, I have never looked back...:deal

Colin was a decent fighter, a real cutie in the ring and a smart fella outside of it too. That injury against Palacio ruined him as people have said. I think he does a lot of motivational speaking now and good work in the community. A friend of mine actually saw him opening a gym in Birmingham a couple of weeks back. He'd make a good pundit although i suspect he's a very busy man and has his own things going on.

He came from a time when all our fighters seemed to have lisps, LOL!

Two weeks before the Palicio fight He was having shoulder problems, the Team wanted to pull Him out. But Colin wanted to Fight, a pity, thats whrn it all went wrong. The shoulder was F**ked, it was always coming out, think He had 3 opps on it. Could never train as He did again. Thats when people around Him realised, He had plenty of arsehole. Great Guy.

 

Not sure think He is still alive. After the Fight everyone went for a checkup, there was a lot of Blood flying around that night .
