When I was a young boxer Jack Johnson, many years retired ,taught me his style boxing...But by nature I was aggressive, much to my sorrow.
    Never a champ,but remembered always for one fight.Who am I ?

No, my guy was a welterweight, who had the same straight up stance
that Johnson and the old timers had...

I don't know about the Johnson connection, but a wild guess:

D, you nailed it..It was Jimmy Doyle, whose birth name was Delaney..He was a great prospect who Jack Johnson taught Doyle the straight up form.
but Doyle was a scrapper, and would trade punches too often. Doyle was
knocked out by Artie Levine in 1946, and suffered a concussion...After nine months Doyle had a few successful bouts and against advice from
boxing people fought the PRIME Ray Robinson who kod Doyle in the eighth
round...He never regained consciousness and died June 23,1947...I saw
Doyle in Stillmans gym sometime after retrurning to the ring and I recall
how pale Jimmy looked compared to the other boxers...

Another poster said Jimmy Doyle. An almost would be Eddie Machen, who was trained by someone who worked with Johnson.
