You read these things on a thread... sounds like no-one is good enough to commentate. To me as long as they are not patronising or Jim Watt I don't mind...
I don't understand why Jim gets such harsh treatment. He does a pretty good job as a co-commentator IMHO. Woodhall is the best in the business, but i can certainly think of a lot worse than Jim Watt.

Duke McKenzie is always good for comedy value. Didn't realise Gary Mason co-commentated on Douglas/Holyfield for Sky till I rewatched it last night, he was good.
It's a matter of preference, not a fixed rule. I'd use it the way you're suggesting since it's clearer and I work as a copywriter.
Sorry to see him go. And I like Woodhouse, too. Mason got done in by 'Tie-Gate', a shame. I'm sure he'd get away with it today.
