how did vitali win the event that night? he lost the fight by tko.

if you mean did he win the fans over? ofcourse he did, he fought with sheer heart through a nasty cut in a way that his loss to chris byrd completely belied.

Vitali did need the rematch more than Lennox did. I don't think Lennox retired out of fear, but he didn't want to end his career on a loss and there's a good chance a Vitali rematch would've resulted in that. Lewis had already accomplished plenty in the sport and didn't want to give Vitali the satisfaction.

It sucks for boxing we didn't get to have a proper rematch with an in-shape Lennox and Vitali with a full training camp, but it is what it is. I don't blame someone who steps down when they think they may be slipping instead of waiting until after the fall. Lennox had a right to hang 'em up when he did. I can understand why Vitali would be bitter about it, though. A rematch could've been a real legacy maker for him and would've been an absolutely massive payday.

Vitaly, please backup your words man. Work on your own legacy...after the Lewis fight you haven't face a fighter on his prime like Lewis did on his years. Ahhh Lewis wasn't on his prime and you where beaten....

I think what's forgotten is that Lewis promised him a rematch. Verbally.
    Then retired.

    My personal opinion.

even though im a vitali fan

Vitali clearly lost the fight va TKO (cuts)

    BUT
in a rematch vitali would had beaten lennox.

Keep in mind that vitali had a cut in his eye so bad he could barely see out of that eye and still was connecting lewis with shots.

we all know that if they let the fight go that Vitali would had won Possibly by K.O

but it stands that lennox beat vitali fair and square TKO (cuts)

i cant take that away from lennox at all.

by the way Im done with (oh hes old)

im not gonna call someone an old man untill their in their 40s or late 40s.

look at holyfeild, hopkins, Look at vitali now at 38 or 39, George foreman won a title in his late 40s, David tua is 37 but hes Still whippin ass an only Drew to monte barret because a torn rotator cuff (by the way vitali decided to stop fighting with a torn rotator cuff even though he was putting a spanking on byrd) by the way im not callin vitali a ***** because i could only imagine how a torn rotator cuff would hurt.

but thats a whole nother topic the point is that my opinion is that Lennox beat the man fair and square but it was obvious that the better fighter in that fight is Vitali.
