I agree. I do not understand all the praise he gets on here. He is a good talker,yes, but not necessarily demi-god status as a boxing commentator. I prefer Rawling.

 

PS. Johnny Nelson is the king when it comes to spewing non stop random bull**** and cliches. He is the worst on the Sky team by some distance.

great voice, get turn of phrase, respect for boxing / fighters and overall knoweldge of the sport - second to none

 

And his anti-UFC rants and bull**** stories are brilliant. I was nearly pissing myself laughing during the Morales v Limond card the other week when he was saying about how Jimmy Lennon and the Corona girls were holding umbrellas over him in the rain when they were commentating from a studio somewhere. The camera even cut to them in the studio between fights.

It does get on my nerves when he constantly namechecks his friends, or when he goes on about how irish he is because he's from Boston. Despite that, if I'm stopping up till 6am to watch some obscure PPV I'm glad it's him that usually does them.

He is a right tit, but is exceedingly keen and enthusiastic and can make the crappiest of fights sound like a classic.

Thought so. I knew you'd be the best person on here to set the record straight and I was hoping you'd comment. Thanks for confirming it, though. I was genuinely confused when someone told me it was wrong as it never stopped me maxing-out English exams and getting a placement to study journalism at Uni before. What made it worse was I was actually sticking up for someone else and got shot down myself.

I suppose it just goes to show that this isn't the best place to discuss topics other than boxing; I remember one dude on here once who condescendingly barked at someone else to sort out his 'grammer'.

 

Gutted Ian Darke you have made Sky Boxing. Your early with with Mccrory and then later building new partners made for superb commentry. Sky you have lost out

It's a shame as he was enthusiastic, love him or hate him you need big charactors, but he did man love hatton & especially his bird Jennifer a bit too much for my liking, always going on about her at ringside.

What SKY really should address is the MUTING of the sound/atmosphere in the arena, i try & attend at least 1/2 fights a year at the MGM Grand & Mandalay Bay & the atmoshere/noise is absolute electric & it comes across like that when you have an HBO feed such as Setanta did. But SKY's is like a chapel of rest, ****in morgue as they filter all the screaming out so Darke & Watt can dominate which is shite compared to the Lampley/Merchant/Foreman/Atlas yap as they love screaming over the fans & really bring the arena into yer home unlike sky.
