Yeah, you definitely find out that there are muscles in your body you didn't know you had after a round or two even IF you're just throwing arm punches. My feet were also cramping a bit after, I tried to use a quick step in and footwork to cut my partner off and let me say, trying to keep that style going is exhausting.

This is a good point  its amazing how slow your hands feel when your punching with those things on. But as others have said the major thing is to relax, the fear of getting hit drains your energy.

Having sparred, has it made you less likely to call a boxer a bum or a tomato
    can?

The first time I sparred I was having a light contact session, I was in with a puncher who'd boxed for years who seemed terrible and I was making a bit of a fool of him for a while just light jabbing and outmanouvering him. So he got pissed off wrestled me and we clinched. I thought we'd just seperate and dropped my hands. Big mistake he moved me into position let his southpaw left hooks loose on me. It got stopped then, my nose got broken and grew twice the size and I had headaches for ages after that

I learnt getting hit from a big puncher isn't fun and to not drop my hands and protect myself at all times. I also didnt get back in the ring for a while after that, partly because I didnt fancy it and wanted to learn to handle myself on the inside, which was a pretty big weakness. I also learnt my sparring mate was a ****

Another thing you learn (even when doing well) is pulling moves off against a boxer is much harder than shadow boxing and hitting bags

No but I wouldn't be rude enough to say it their face. Its because its a relative statement and more about the better boxer taking on overmatched opponents

Any of you discover your hands went numb from balling 'em up so tightly to hit a home run?

How 'bout your head guard obscuring your vision, 'n constantly tryin' to adjust it?

You can't see **** with a jab constantly in your face.
Little taps or shoves can send you off balance.
Short straight punches hurt more than you think.

I learned the significance of how waking up everyday at 4AM to do my roadwork helped. My first sparring partners were more experienced, but my conditioning was slightly better than theirs. I found out their roadwork wasn't so great.

Were you surprised--even though you fancied yourself in good physical shape-how quickly you were exhausted?

That it seemed as if 3 minutes was calculated in dog years (x 7).
