Don Curry was sharp imo, quick and precise and accurate with his punches, he had a lot of poise imo.

Perhaps in terms of single punches.... Hearns right hand was one of the fastest punches ever thrown. But Hearns certainly was NOT as fast as Ray in terms of combination punching, or footwork is concerned.

We never saw the real Kenty during his championship run. In his first televised match after O'Grady, he reverted from power stalker to his natural perimeter stick and move style, and indeed displayed blinding speed in schooling John Montes. He definitely could have beaten O'Grady in a rematch boxing like this, but the way his next match with Elizondo went down on national television ruined his career, and he was barely 29 when he retired after seven straight wins.

Hilmer dominated that first round with Elizondo, but during his interview in the ring following round two and his corner retirement, he speculated that maybe something he ate was responsible for his sudden loss of strength and weakness. But in Elizondo's mouse squeak voice, he claimed that his body punching was responsible for Kenty's abrupt enervation. In hindsight, I do wonder about that.

At 5'11" Hilmer weighed just 136 pounds for Elizondo. Until O'Grady, he'd taken little punishment, either by initiating action, or evading through his use of mobility, speed, height and reach. He surprised the deadly Ernesto Espana by going on the attack and not giving the Venezuelan a chance to get off. Sean was ready for this, and planned to assert his power early. This was aided tremendously by the walking pneumonia Kenty was afflicted with. (Today, a ringside physician might not permit that bout to take place.)

Body punching was a trademark of Elizondo's. He used it to beat some tough competition, like Norm Goins and Art Leon. He'd also picked up some quality experience in his recent wars with Arguello and Boza Edwards. (No challenger took the fight to Alexis quite the way Roberto did. Arguello and Boza Edwards both beat him by countering off the ropes in blistering action.) O'Grady had decimated Kenty to the body, sending Hilmer sprawling on the floor like Beetle Bailey with a massive right driven down into Kenty's torso. Hilmer's resistance to body blows following O'Grady has to be called into question, and maybe there is something to Roberto claiming credit for forcing the stoppage.

Yessir! Tito hand speed has gotten very underrated due to his very one sided losses.

Maybe Hilmer should've headed up to 140.Don't know about Pryor, but there were several fighters he could've beaten there.

This, although Ray was certainly capable of moving on his feet very swiftly when he felt the need. I never bought into him as a backfoot boxer, though. He rarely got on the bicycle unless he was either looking to put on a show or simply in the warming up stages of the bout. He did by far his best offensive work when in center ring, more or less square with the opponent.
