Looks like newly crowned WBO super featherweight champion Ricky Burns (29-2, 7 KOs) will make his first defense against #3 rated Matt Zegan (42-5-2, 21 KOs) on December 4 or December 11 in London. Apparently the contract was signed today and the fight will go ahead despite Zegan’s questionable draw with Boris Berg (3-0-1, 2 KOs) in a junior welterweight bout on Sunday in Berlin. Berg was originally announced as the winner of that bout, however two days later the result was controversially changed to a draw by the German Boxing Association.

Looking at Zegan's record, he's had some quite attrocious losses, how has he come to have been ranked 3 by the WBO?

I was expecting an easy defence but this is a bit extreme. Don't recognise one boxer he has beaten. Hopefully Frank stacks the undercard.

Jim Watt & whoever is with him is going to have a hard time building this up.

Fair enough after a hard earned win he deserves to milk a few defences out of the title but was this guy really the best they could get?

The reason why Zegan is getting the show at Burns.........he is a Universum fighter.

Universum also promote Jurgen Braehmer who is being lined up to fight Cleverly. As part of the deal to get Braehmer to the UK, he has promised another Universum fighter (Zegan) a shot at Burns.

They also have Dimitrenko the European Heavyweight champion, Sartison the WBA Super Middleweight champion, Gennaday Govlokin and Sebastian Zbik who both hold interim belts at Middleweight so also possible opponents for Chisora, Smith and Macklin.

bollocks he gets to milk a few easy defences.
im a ricky burns fan but i disagree with this view and i dont care if thats what most fighters do.
if this guy is an opponent its pretty ridiculous

then again...what had burns done recently to deserve a shot...? and look what he did!

was the mag7 a ppv in germany? cos AA was there as a pundit and as we know...germany has such a massive population and a big interest in boxing now...maybe warren did some good business in germany and is building contacts, to have more jerrys on his shows in the future

It wasnt PPV, there no PPV boxing in germany. Its all terrestrial but it was shown on there equivilent of a channel4/itv ARD. they showed Enzo vs Frenkel live (which is why it was near the end) and cleverly vs murat and hall vs konecny on tape delay.

As part of the deal to get Frenkel and Murat over, he gave some of the European rights to Sauerland. I imagine the same will happen for Zegan vs Burns and Braehmer vs Cleverly.

Warren also gave up his share in Dennis Lebedev which has allowed him to enter Sauerland cruiser super six.

dunno some mods keep changing it and then others take it off. they need to sort themselves out. the other day they changed it to a photo of my girlfriend which was a bit out of order.
