I can't say I'm a fan because he's still being built up. He hasn't been a lot of big fights to catch my interest. It seems to me I hear more about Chavez Jr. from fans complaining about him opposed to promoters or media hyping him up. I do agree that he's being protected and brought up slowly, but I think that's the smart thing to do. He's very young, hasn't even reached his peak and it would be very dumb to put him in with some lions. I do think he's got good potential and probably could step it up soon. For all the folks hating on Chavez Jr....why?
They hate on him because padded records is frowned upon or because they don't like the idea of another Chavez in boxing since older fans grew up watching Chavez Sr. I like him, he looked strong and fast in the Duddy fight. He'll flatten Gomez the **** out.
I think it depends on who your asking. I don't hate him or any boxer, but I get the feeling alot of people might expect alot out of him considering who his dad is. I think they are bringing him up just fine and getting trained by Roach is the wisest thing they could of done for his career. Anything less would not be acceptable and before Roach he looked like nothing special, unlike his rival Canelo Alvarez. Earlier in his career he seemed abit arrogant especially when asked about Canelo Chavez Jr explained he didn't know who he was, but maybe he really didn't know who he was and being younger and naive he was prone to be more arrogant. Pretty much what Canelo is doing is what most fans believe is the stage Chavez Jr should be at, but with Roach he has gotten considerably better so now we will see him at his best and their should be no excuses.
The dislike for Chavez Jr. is the fact that his fights come at a PPV rate. Other than that, elchivito mentioned everything else.
I did see a more recent interview in which Chavez Jr. said something along the lines that Canelo needed him more than the other way around because Canelo was calling him out. Canelo is 19 I believe. I'm sure a few years ago Chavez Jr didn't know much about him, Canelo hasn't gone mainstream until about a year ago. Anyways I think they can be two fine champions with great legacies without facing each other. If they do they should wait until they are bigger names and the same weight class. Right now they would totally screw up their careers and not getting any bang for their buck.
oh yea, the ppv's. none except the duddy fight were worth the money. I guess in a way he made up for the past ones with the duddy fight. that was a hell of a fight.
yea, win or lose even if their careers went different paths, their fans will want to see this fight happen in the future. they haven't even approached their primes yet when they do, then that would be the best time to judge.
Why is it always a matter of hate? I don't hate the man. I don't even know him. He's a blanketed HBO prospector with a pillow as a resume making millions off his old mans name and not really that much of a fighter.
People want to hate on his "Record" & his name... Had his name not been Chavez, People would have been excited & less critical. Bottomline, Who gives a ****. He will win a championship & people will have to deal with it.
I dont hate the kid,is not his fault.I hate the system of boxing.I havent neither will i buy a PPV of chavezjr unless he proves he is worth to be watched.Nothing to do with being mexican.I did pay to watch a lot of DLH,Vargas,Marquez,Barrera and Morales... because they were worth to watch.I woudnt pay to watch Casamayor's son if his son isnt as good as he was.Not just because he is the son of a cuban's legend. But if mexicans find attractive his last name and gives them joy because the memories of his legendary father..well that's their money..and Arumm deeply appreciate it more than anybody else.
He already has the silver whatever trinket. So what? Have him fight any elite at 154 or 160. What he needs is a babysitter who lets him play in the front yard.
