Did you enjoy his battle with Zamora?

Indeed, and his finish against Amores, but I still think a lot of the talk he often receives on the Classic Forum is disproportionate to his abilities.

No worries, i like him as the best H2H at Bantam. Very high opinion, but to each their own.

I'm not being shouted down for holding a contrasting opinion to yours? Say it ain't so. This is pretty refreshing. We should talk about Boxing more, JT. :good

Hahaha, cheers. I'd never shout ya down mate. I 100% respect people picking Jofre and Olivares over Zarate H2H etc, personally i just dig King Carlos.

Gene Fullmer. The crudest looking skilled fighter I've ever seen. I find him completely unwatchable.

    Jack Johnson.

People make him out to be this pillar of "black pride" yet what did this shining beacon do as soon as he got the title?

He froze out fellow black atg's like Langford,Janette and McVey instead defending against some average white contenders and a middleweight.Plus he seemed like a bit of an ass as a person also.

If that wasn't bad enough he was ****ing boring to watch as well.

I watched a highlights film on youtube of Johnson-Burns and the narrator kept saying stuff like "Watch here as Jack masterfully ties Burns up" or "Johnson dominated rounds 6 through 8,watch here as in round 9 Jack looks to punch, backs off and ties Burns up.Wonderful".And these were the highlights:-(

Hell even in his most dramatic moment when he KO'd Ketchel he fell over doing it and looked sloppy.

I respect him for what he achieved and how good he must've been but I'm not going to try and appreciate him anymore.

I do know how you feel on the Ali front. Neither tar nor feather from me. Some of his shitfests were every bit as shitfesty as some of Wladdy's shitfests that are so bellyached about now. To me, anyway.

There aren't too many, but I must name Jack Johnson...and it's probably due, in all fairness, to the relatively primitive state of film more than anything else.

To be fair, I don't think anyone rates him that highly other than me. You're not going against the consensus that much.

There's something that always put me off about Sugar Ray Leonard. I admired his skills, and look upon him as one of the true greats of the ring. In spite of this,I never actually warmed to his character. He just seemed so claculating. No personality shone through. Anyone agree with this ?
