Not talking about Bellew specifically, but just in general, why do people become so predictable when they fight southpaw's? they think the only shots you should be looking for, is the lead right hand to close the distance, and the left hook over the shoulder, which strictly speaking, is a useful combination, but the most important part about fighting a southpaw, is putting punches TOGETHER!, which is why Bellew got so little change out of Ajisafe, that and the fact he was loading up on every shot, see all that happens when you load up on the right hand, is you fall in more, which makes the transition to any potential punch you throw after that, come slower, which obviously makes it easier for the southpaw to get away. I also think Bellew might of been well served to invite Ajisafe's jab, roll it, then shoot a short uppercut up the middle, because Ajisafe leans in when he fights, plus, he pushes the jab and falls in a little with it, the uppercut would work a treat. I get ticked off watching fighters look for singles and 1 and 2 shots against southpaw's, Berto was made to look terrible because he was showing Quintana what he was trying to do, which was square his right leg up, invite the jab of Quintana, make him fall short, then throw the counter right hand, only when you do that with your foot, the southpaw knows what punch your looking for, therefore, it makes it easier to avoid. With all that said, I like the look of Bellew, and I would not read too much into this fight, he wont be fighting a southpaw all the time, plus, he wont be the only fighter to have underperformed against southpaw's, Sumbu Kalambay was one of the best technical fighters ever, but he had issues against southpaw's imo, as did Roy Jones to a degree.
I was at Bournemouth amateur back in 2004 2005 ish. was there for prob 18 months or so. had a few fights. just had a look and I dont know jake. louis i have seen box at various shows. fast hands, looks good. yeah imo opinion the coaches at bmth arent the best but are good blokes who love boxing and give up a lot of time. i have seen the yank training people at various gyms and always thought he looked like a very good coach. seen him vastly improve athletic newbies in only a couple of sessions. i alsoi used to train with cornelius carr too who rated the american highly. top bloke cornelius :thumbsup
The Golden Ring in Southampton is the best gym from everyone I've spoke to about it. I used to train at Jack Bishops, never got serious though. Shame.
yeah golden ring fighters generally the business. all good movers, quite flashy stylists, but good fundamentals often too. however quite a few of the lads who box there have serious attitude and ego problems. clearly their behaviour rubs off on each other. i was talking about what good fighters it produces with a bristolian mate of mine who boxed to very high standard amateur and unprompted he said pretty much the same thing.
One of the reasons I'm not keen to go there. It's in am area that traditionally does not like where I'm from Although if I was gonna' take it seriously, it would have to be where I went, I've got a mate who's about to have his first amateur fight who trains there, might be a way to integrate me without taking too many batterings :good
think would be fine for you to train there but i would imagine it isnt massively friendly and I would also imagine that some of the guys there wqould be borderline intimidating etc. tho if your mate already trains there sure be ok.
Still cant get my head around why you showed you were capable of boxing to a plan against Mckenzie under a new tyrainer and yet here against Bob whatisafe you couldnt implement bugger all.
