From what I understand, there was a judging scoring error in the fight. That one judge instead of scoring the round where Pac dropped Marquez 3 times a 10-6 round, he scored it 10-7. I thought I read somewhere that a round cant be called a 10-6 because it would be too big a hole for a fighter to climb out of. That a 10-7 was the most.

Can somebody clear this up for me?

According to the IBF rules 10-6 rounds cant be awarded.

But the WBA belt was at stake as well and therefore goes to unification rules which allows the scoring of 10-6 rounds.

well basically danny boy, one judge incorrectly awarded the first round 10-7 to pacman. if he had given it 10-6 to pacman then pacman would have won the fight.

10-6 is not that big a hole to climb out of. I mean if you win 8 out of 12 rounds, you win the fight, even if you lost a round 10-6.

If you get a KD back then all you need is to win 7 rounds to get a draw

Yep. This thread should be attached to all other threads saying Pac lost to marquez in the first fight.

I honestly was surprised the ref didn't stop it on the 3rd one. It's rare that a ref let's a guy get knocked down like that over and over now-a-days.

That's because Marquez was fine, even after the third KD. There's a reason they check their faculties before letting them continue on.

i agree, 2 knockdowns in a round is usually enough. the third one was pretty heavy and he did get tagged repeatedly after gettin up each time. marquez took a serious beating that first round and a ref stopping the fight then would not have been disgraced.

Well it's a good job he didn't stop it. JMM was far from finished, and what a comeback he made.

And I agree, the first round should have been a 10-6 round. Am I right in thinking that judge even admitted to his mistake afterwards?

The judge did in fact admit error.

    Yeah, I know.

I'm just saying it's rare in modern boxing to see a ref give the boxer the benefit of the doubt.

with hindsight admittedly it is a good job.

but you look at the first round, and if the third time marquez goes down, the ref waves it off, could you really have had any complaints?

not saying it should have been stopped, i'm just saying it is interesting.
