I agree with you up to a point.................Bute would have been a better inclusion in the tournament.

However, unless Johnson is weight drained, there is NO WAY Green walks through him in 7 or 8.

It is a mistake for Glen Johnson to drop from 175 to 168; at this stage of his career it can kill ya.

We could compare it to Roy Jones Junior dropping from 193 to 175 although he was only 34 - 35 at the time. Johnson is 41.

Has an older fighter ever dropped down in weight and been successful?

good question. chris byrd is another example of the dangers of late career weight dropping.

It would have been nice to move it along to the semi-finals, but calling Johnson's inclusion a "disgrace" is out of line.

Green obviously wants to stay involved. We do not know the specifics of his deal with Showtime, but there must have been something in it that allowed Green to refuse to leave the tourney, so Showtime had to find an opponent.

Bute has a mandatory with Brinkley for October 15th. That fight was a done deal quite awhile back. Bute can't just drop it, or Brinkley would sue the **** out of him. In addition, Lucian's next fight will probably be a main event on HBO. He's not available, and even if he was, joining the tourney at this point would not be a particularly bright business decision.

Robert Stieglitz would have been a nice choice for us hardcore boxing nerds, but among casual fans he is "Robert who?" I also think Stieglitz can make more money fighting in and around Germany than he would make in the tourney. Again, it would not be a good business decision.

Bika is a disgraced piece of **** who has a ****ing screw loose! He is also a ******* to negotiate with.

Top Rank and Cameron Dunkin have put a lot of pressure on Pavlik to try and stay at 160, but KP isn't crazy about the idea. The fight with Vera at 164 is a compromise. He's trying to see if he really can stay at 160. After the Vera fight his next fight will probably be a main event on HBO. Like Bute, Pavlik isn't available, and doesn't really need the tournament on a business level.

Given the circumstances The Road Warrior is a decent enough choice. My biggest concern is that watching a weight drained Johnson lose to Allan "are my shoes on the right feet" Green would break my freaking heart!

Green is gonna get his ass kicked.. he cant handle the pressure or chin that Johnson will bring... I think Johnson has a shot at least against Froch also. AA Dirrel and Ward are too much for the old man though.

It was reported a while back that Bute declined to be included form the very beginning.

So who else shold be in if not Johnson?

good call, getting back to johnson i think he's as good an option as any. relatively famous, well schooled, talented, deep resume. there are better at 168 sure but this kind of tournament demands a degree of notoriety i think

That really doesn't make sense when you think about it. There's no reason SHO would decline Bute's entrance to this. Well, I guess that's not 100% true, since we never really know the behinds the scenes of it all. It just doesn't make sense for what SHO has been trying to do the past few years, putting on quality cards.
