I think we can say that 64-67 Ali was peaked.
Young's peak was 75-77, when he beat named opponents like Lyle, (past prime Ali), Shavers, Norton, and Foreman.

What happens when a peak Ali meets Young? I see Ali winning a decision, but Young would make it very ugly. I don't think Young would hurt Ali, but young did drop George foreman and stun Ron lyle in the rematch with a counter right hand..
he also dropped michael dokes with a BODY SHOT :deal
In his ultimate peak, Young could pop... He also backed a young prime Gerry Cooney up with body shots, despite being cut.

Ali wins, I don't think he would have to worry about Young hurting him.Surprised at him flooring Dokes, always thought it was a low blow. Ali wins a UD, with Young winning no more than 4 rounds, tops.

The fight with a very faded out of shape Ali was very, very close in my estimation. An Ali at his best would have won clearly, even easily. I think he would have been too fast for Young to counter.

Ali would have to worry. Young ALWAYS had a good punch on him and was quite sneaky with his shots. From the overhand right that he popped George with to the body shots that he caught Dokes with.

I Pretty much agree, but Ali would have trouble based on Young being game the entire time.

    People are selling young short.
If Young lands his counter right hand hayemaker on Ali's jaw, he's going down, no doubt about it

You can argue Young also hurt Norton worse then Ali ever managed in their combined 39 rounds in the ring together.

ifs youngs peak is 75-77 and an almost finished Ali beat him in 76, then why would anyone think Young would do better against a prime Ali?:huh

Ali didn't beat him. And Young did as little as he could. If Ali did more, as Norton did, Young would have done more. I wish he just did that little bit more in his fights. He should'nt have let the fights be that close, so they could rob him.

But back to who would win, Young of course, like he did in 76. Ali was real good with guys who were slow ao bangers, but, a defensive counterpuncher who is quick and smart would ruin his day

Prime mid 60's Ali would beat the **** out of Jimmy Young. Jimmy was a GOOD fighter and a great technician but lets not try to rewrite history here.

Ali would win by a very clear decision. Even the Ali of 1971 - 74 would leave no doubt on the judges' cards. Simply too fast for Jimmy.
