This will be interesting, Burt. (You already well know I have the answer you have in mind to this one.) The title of your thread does make me want to read Caesar's "The Conquest of Gaul" again though. (A great narrative documentary. Surprised the History Channel hasn't produced it as presented by him.)

No, D, it was not Julius Caesar...Julius never fought in NY. He couldn't get a license...I trained hard for this post...You might as well tell who the fighter is,as the IDES of March is not far away..b.b.

 All right then. Charley Burley knocked out Phil McQuillan in 2:10 of the first round at St. Nicholas Arena for his only appearance in NYC, an opportunity you have discussed missing out on sharing with your very impressed father. This was Burley's second fight after his legendary destruction of 6'3" 219 pound heavyweight Jay D. Turner in Minneapolis.

As Nat Fleischer and the boxing press were largely based in the New York area, it didn't help Burley's cause for a title opportunity that he didn't display himself there beyond this one brief appearance. The records of Burley and his Murderer's Row brethren in California are not to be found in his record books.
