Yeah, that would be a bitter pill for ESB to swallow.

Toney has plenty of stylistic similarities, Qawi hit harder ofcourse

that's not quite fair, you can't just boil someone down to their two best opponents cobra.

who did monzon fight other than an ancient griffin, briscoe and valdes?

he fought a series of titlests and top 10 contenders. he did what most great fighters do: fight a lot of contenders and occasionally a very good or great opponent.

Hey, it's no worse a prediction than the majority in this thread, yours included.

I dont understand what you mean by this? Are you saying that he had to have one foot in the grave to show his plan B? I think Jones defeated quite a bit of different stylists throughout his career, and I dont think Tarver stands out as the best of them. Jones was going to slow down and get knocked out at some point, I was sure of that, I just always felt a crafty counterpuncher would be the one to do it. I dont think Tarver necessarily duplicates that performance against Jones at his best, but some of the better LH's throughout history could have presented challenges for him. He wasnt particularly tall or big for a LH. It was all about his speed and ability to use it to offset oppoents size and styles, but he had such an advantage in speed of hand and foot over most boxers throughout history it would always be a tall order.
I dont know how some people can make the comments they do on here, its almost like they never saw the man fight before he lost to Tarver. :-(

what i meant to say was that jones never had to change his style much. his athleticism and natural gifts made him so ****ing brilliant, he was never really challenged until the very end of his career.

let's say he fought spinks, or qawi, or eubanks, benn and collins. he might have had to pull something out that we'd never seen from him before. it's more a testimony to the fact that, no matter the weight, style or opponent roy was always head and shoulders better

Well thats what made Jones, Jones. Without his speed, he was no longer superman. Based on what he did to Toney, I would say a lot of these so called challenges would wind up the same. He was just sooo much faster than all the rest.

The term 'sluggish' is certainly not 1 even a hater would make of Jones I feel. As a Jones fan I wouldn't fear a 5'5 James Toneyeque puncher with his feet in mud. Gerald McClellan maybe, not Dwight Qawi. This fight is all about the difference in foot speed

exactly, BUT if he were facing some of the best LHW's of all time he'd likely have to dig up something extra. if not qawi, then spinks, charles, foster or conn. i'd love to see roy jones, in his peak, fight tooth and nail for a win and see what that looks like
