Dwight Muhammad Qawi vs Roy Jones at 175lbs

Some of those Jones beats easy. He did fight tooth and nail in Tarver 1 and had to pull something out the bag in Griffin 1

 

You don't surely mean Spinks, PP? You don't really think Jones would beat 6'2 Spinks easily?

 

Surprised how many think Roy would stop Dwight, only Holyfield and Foreman stopped him. Against Evander he was high and against George he just gassed and was way overweight. Cannot see Roy coming close to stopping him. I think Quawi would stop Roy in the late rounds coming from behind.

 

It wouldnt be from just one shot, thats for sure.

 

Jones' first fight with Griffin showed that Jones' usual boxing style doesn't work against a shorter opponent with a quick head that was good at timing overhand shots - all of which describes Qawi to a tee. Given that Jones was likely not going to succeed at going smack-for-smack and bombing Qawi out early like he did in the Griffin rematch, I wouldn't favor Jones in this one.

 

If it's a stoppage Qawi wins, indeed.

 

Qawi is far busier and intense. No stroll in the park with Qawi.

 

I think Jones could win a decision but i can see Qawi winning by stoppage late but i'm not sure about that.

Qawi is the only light heavy fighter on Spinks resume that could give Jones real problems.

I do think Jones jab was not that bad in the Griffin fight, just his use of it was not very satisfactory.

IMO Jones was throwing a slow almost pushing jab as bait for Griffin to step in with a counter because of this crappy jab. However, Griffin anticipated it well and did not fall for it, and hence made Jones jab look absoloutly terrible. Saying that though Jones should have adapted the use of the jab at that point but stupidly stuck with it.

"The pleasure of -rewatching Spinks-Qawi". Even watching it once was painful enough. It was a terrible fight and an easy night for Spinks. A lot tougher for Jones, granted, as he would find it more difficult with Qawi's squat-style and weaving motion, but I don't think Dwight would score cleanly enought to beat Roy. So, Jones UD, with a one or two Camacho vs Rosario moments along the way.

Not only was Toney not at 175 as the question had asked, but what exactly are his stylistic similarities with Qawi? I'd say he was almost the polar opposite of Qawi, both in style and physique.

 

I didn't say it was 175 and imo 7lbs is pretty irrelevant. Qawi and Toney both use a side on shoulder roll half guard with similar punching technique, both have plodding footwork. Qawi is more aggressive with more power, Toney slicker defensively
