i said in my first post, that just because mercer had success with the jab, it didn't necessarily mean that ali would.even though he had a much better jab.it just doesn't work like that.

EXAMPLE:

holyfield had a much better jab than mercer. using your crazy theory, you'ed think he'd have as much success with the jab as mercer did, or more. WRONG!! as i've said, it doesn't work like that.

i said in my second post (to jorodz) that if a fighter has a something in his arsenal that he's good with, be it a jab, hook, or straight punch, he's going to have SOME success with it.

EXAMPLE:

trinidad with his left hook.through out most of his career he had big success with that punch.that's because he had a great left hook. now, going into the hopkins fight you'ed think he would have big success with that punch again wouldn't you? well, if you're a ****** you'ed think this. because as i've said before, it doesn't work like that.

in the hopkins fight, did he have great success with it? NO, HE DIDN'T!!

did he have SOME success with it? YES, HE DID!!

even if he was to land only 15 left hooks through out the whole fight, this would be considered as having SOME success with that punch.

landing 0 left hooks would = having NO success with that punch.
landing loads of left hooks would = having BIG success with that punch.
landing 15 left hooks would = having SOME success.

understand now you waste of breath?

now back to what you consider to be a contradiction between the two posts of mine.

Lennox Lewis was a damn good fighter. He'd have been competetive in any era. He was so good that in the Ali/Frazier/Foreman era he would have been right in there holding his own with Quarry, Bonavena, Chuvalo, Shavers, and all those other great heavyweights that never held the title.
