Monzon was the Joseph Stalin of the middleweight division...just as cold and ruthless a dictator as Stalin.

I actually had Valdez taking the second Monzon fight believe it or not....

I admit that I was looking for a way to give it to Valdez, but that was most definitely a close fight. And it was anything but easy for Monzon.

Rodrigo Valdez vs. Carlos Monzon II: 142-141 Valdez
    Monzon: 1,4,5,6,10 ( 10-8 ),11 and 14.
    Valdez: 2 ( 10-8 ),3,7,8,9,12,13 and 15.

Dosen't surprise me that you would have almost the opposite scorecard to me.

I really will have to watch these fights again been about 2 years since I seen them.

The stoppage of Briscoe is weird as hell. Odd to see a guy like Briscoe go down even.

That's a reason for having a high estimation of Valdez.

yeah he was but by the time he got the title, he was slipping, which was a pity.
the ring magazine had a top 10 middles spread to find monzons successor and it said that hagler was a short slugger and his career wouldn't last long.mugs
