Yes, it has an effect on long-term health but Tyson partying it up a bit and maybe even underestimating James Douglas does not mean that he was some kind of badly denigrated physical wreck as helpless as a baby between the ropes. It's funny how a still very young Tyson without any significant layoff and, to this point, without having been in a real prolonged war where he got hit hard for several rounds is suddenly "past peak" just because he succumbed to the same vices as any overnight success.

Was he past peak when Smith made him look kind of ordinary? Did he then double back to his "peak" for a few years before "passing" it again, or was he already shot when he steamrolled Spinks? What's it going to be? Did Tyson's peak walk the dog on a yo-yo string, or did it come and go before he was even legally old enough to drink?

Or maybe...just maybe...is it possible that you're making excuses for a peak fighter who wasn't at his 100% best (but not that far off) on a night where he really needed to be? :think

I'm one of the biggest Mike Tyson fans on here but I gotta admit Tyson was prime against Douglas. Mentally he wasn't there but physically of course he was prime. I agree that he wasn't peak that was against Spinks. Douglas, like Haterats said, beat the **** outta him I give him all credit. Toke a gunshot of an uppercut yet came back to knock him out a few rounds later. Ironically, Douglas-Tyson is one of my favorite fights ever.
