i was at Reid v Magee,Magee would have won the fight easily only he kept going down on one knee from punches that werent landing correctly.Magee has improved greatly since going to new trainer Bernard Checa and will win a world title shortly.
When Reid performed he was world class.... and never beat someone at world level? errrrmmm many think he beat calzaghe, and he beat ottke, even with the atrocious officiating. and who said ottke was one of the best smws in history? :rofl:rofl
I have to agree. Magee has already done more than I thought he would, and fair play to him. But I dont think he will become a world champ.
Well, he got a split decision vs. Calzaghe. Calzaghe being a fighter that many consider the greatest supermiddleweight of all time. A fight that many say Reid won.
Reid was a good world class fighter his performances against Calzaghe and Ottke showed how good he was. In my opinion the worst thing that happened to him was and winning the title so early in his career. He went from fighting domestic level opponents to being a champion in one fight. As a champion he was still developing as a fighter, hence why in one defence he would be very aggressive and then the very next fight, would box and move. He was trying to improve his boxing skills when he came up against Malinga and tried to outbox a more experienced counter puncher, it was a winnable fight but he just chose the wrong strategy. By the time he faced Calzaghe he was at his peak and proved how good he was. But after that loss he didn't fight again for almost a year and a half and that cost him the fight against Branco. He dominated the first couple of rounds against Branco and it looked like he would stop him early but he just seemed to lose his way. Reid was pretty much frozen out after the losses to Branco and Calzaghe. His former WBC title seemed to have a different champion every couple of months and he didn't get another shot until Ottke and the worst referee ever robbed him of a second world title.
